What a wonderful way to announce it and a perfectly worded statement. It must take a lot of strength and bravery to announce it on live TV. I am proud of him and hope that he can take some peace from this announcement.

Must have been a stressful few months, I wonder how much of the recent speculation and tabloid gossip about the programme has actually been this?

I was shocked to see this on the top of the sky news app then read it was an Instagram post and I thought his account could have been hacked so seems risky running with it then the story updated to say he had been interviewed on This Morning. It just goes to show despite the amount of people who don't seem to like him in the industry not one of them said anything publicly and that should be congratulated. Whilst it would be good for this not to make front page news you have to admit its a big story when he's one of the main presenters on itv and has been on tv for longer than a lot of us have been alive. he seemed to have a perfect life with Steph for over 25 years and recently she has been appearing in tv shows with him showing off their home and life. you can clearly see how much they love each other too so yes I was shocked when I read his name I thought he was leaving This Morning or something

its great that his family are so supportive too. not everyone is lucky like that

Holly interviewed Phil in a 15 minute opener at the top of the show. Eamonn and Ruth then came onto the set to carry on the coverage as normal after a short while.

Holly was originally seated in her usual spot, with Phil to her left on the guest part of the sofa. He then moved to sit in his usual place.

Ruth will be fuming he did it on a Friday.

Was there a crossover or do we think the Holly and Phil bit was recorded yesterday?

That was a brave thing to do from Phillip there. He's actually earned my respect more now than before.

No, it appeared all live. Ruth and Eammon came onto the set and hugged Phil tightly. Especially Eammon. And Phil repeatedly thanked Ruth during the hug. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.....”

All the best to him. Brave man.

This is both a surprise whilst being but not that surprising.

I wonder if the stories of him being a nightmare to work with if true, have been a result of him going through this. I’m not sure we will ever know.

It’s very rare established famous names have to come out these days, so well done to him and let’s hope he can find some kind of happiness.

I'd speculate the tabloids had some dirt on Phil to publish this weekend, so made a rush appearance today to soften the blow.
