I'm not sure a journalist is necessarily a requirement - neither Phil nor Holly has a journalism background. But it is true that such a background is no bad thing for this kind of show.
I think your personality has a lot to do with being a good presenter for this morning.
A sense of humour, a sense of sensitivity around serious topics and just being yourself and sharing your life with the audience.
Doesn't sound hard but a lot of previous presenters fell down on the being themselves bit and they haven't been back.

Yeah, Phil and Holly both started out on kids TV! And not on Newsround. For serious stories, you need established presenters, but they don't have to be journalists.

I like the way that Holly and Phil are on This Morning. I know that they don't have a journalistic background, but at that time in the morning you don't want anything heavy. You've got BBC News for that.

Does that mean that James and Rani were only meant to be on for a couple of weeks or have they removed them?
Rylan & Dan appear to be back next Friday.

I can't see them being removed from the summer presenting team so prematurely. I assume that either James or Anita is busy doing something else on Friday and the producers thought it would be good to bring back Rylan & Dan.
To be honest, I think both of the aforementioned Friday presenting teams work well (although Rylan & Dan seem to be more popular with viewers on social media). James & Anita seemed more confident yesterday, so I do hope that they haven't been removed.

It does look as if James & Anita have actually been dropped completely from This Morning Summer; Rylan & Dan are now set to host the remaining Fridays in the series (excluding week 8, where Eamonn & Ruth will present for the entirety of the week).
I'm not sure if James will continue stand-in for Phillip in the future.
