Why don't you just say Rylan and his husband Dan rather than assume it'll mean something to everyone? It's significant because it must be the first time on UK TV a gay couple have presented something together.

Sorry lads forgot about you.

You're trying to seem above it or doing what you think the politically correct thing is to do. If Holly's husband was suddenly down to present with her it would get a mention and raise a few eyebrows likewise it would have been mentioned when Eamon and Ruth first presented together. A married couple presenting together is inherently interesting. You can't pretend it's without significance that a show so associated with husband and wife duos over the years is having a husband and husband duo present.
It's not as if This Morning didn't think it would make a splash. http://www.standard.co.uk/stayingin/tvfilm/rylan-clarkneal-and-husband-dan-will-be-first-gay-couple-to-host-this-morning-a3281521.html

Irrespective of their being married, will this be the first time we've had two men presenting as opposed to a man/woman combination?

1. We're not DS.
2. This is a tv presentation website, whether they're married, single, gay, lesbian or hetro isn't an issue when we're discussing a presenter change.
3. I'd like to think we're intelligent enough to know who the two presenters are without having to go into their personal lives.
In any case, Justine Greening MP came out as being lesbian on Sunday. Again, it's no longer an issue when over 40 MP's have come out. There are of course still hurdles to cross where being LGBT isn't an issue such as with football players, but two broadcasters is hardly groundbreaking, especially on a female skewed daytime show.

Oh well that's alright then if it's no longer an issue. That's great if the only thing we've got to go is to have a couple of footballers come out. Everything is hunky dory...
You try telling that to the 15 people that are assaulted each day in this country for being gay. It is definitely still an issue, a big issue, and while this (Rylan & Dan) could be a step in the right direction I can't help but feel it will reinforce the same old stereotypes.

In that case we don't need to discuss the presenter change at all.
I just think it's an interesting aside that's odd not to mention. The fact that they are married couple is relevant because that affects the dynamic of the show. The producers decision and thinking with the pairing will have been in part to make a statement.
Be it presentation or talent I think the biggest thing we do here is to try to understand and discuss decisions made by those making TV. I think the thing most people have a problem is when posters just reel off a list presenter rotas or people just mention things that happen which are routine without any critique of those decisions.

Given the show's heritage of being presented by married couples, I'm surprised Mrs Schofield doesn't cover for Holly on occasion, with her past as a CBBC presenter. (Can't remember if she was any good, mind you)

Colin and Justin might have something snappy to say about that.
I hadn't heard of them before, but that Wikipedia entry has a wonderful sentence in it: "As well as being co-hosts, McAllister and Ryan have also been a couple since the late 1980s and are credited as introducing laminate flooring to British households."
That's wonderful

Even earlier than Colin and Justin were Hudson and Halls. The gay couple from New Zealand who hosted their cookery show at daytime on BBC in the late 80's.
