As Eamonn mentioned, Denise and him worked on another daytime tv show for the BBC before she was poached by Granada for TM.

Which was called Open Air.

I have it on good authority that Schofe wanted his old chum Emma Forbes to replace Fern but ITV vetoed it.

Anyway, not the time to dwell on that stuff... a sad day, well-handled by all concerned.

Interesting I've heard that Holly was his choice from day 1 and ITV had to be talked into it as she wasn't in the mould of Fern or Judy. Basically a sidekick rather than co presenter.
Phil won in the end

Just watching yesterdays This Morning online now and can't believe how much it's effecting me. I did always love Denise, but didn't think i'd keep crying throughout the programme! Crying or Very sad

So far the programme is very good, including lots of past presenters and people associated with the programme. She will be missed.

I have enjoyed This Morning throughout its almost 28 year run. I liked Richard and Judy because I enjoyed them on Granada Reports in the early to mid eighties. I liked Fern too but the show has moved on. I think the chemistry between Holly, Phil, Eamonn and Ruth I'd fantastic. Bearing in mind the four have presented either in their own pairing or with one of the other pairing and it has worked.

Don't forget what happened in 2001 when Twiggy as well as Colleen and others shared the roles and it didn't work.

Holly has brought a breath of fresh air to the programme. Her chemistry with Phil is excellent Judy as Fern and Phil were.

I feel the show is where it was back in the Richard and Judy years with what we have now.

I also thought Rylan was excellent yesterday and the entire show was.

I was very sad to hear of Denise's passing. She was fantastic and brilliant and lady night I say didn't and watched the entire show completely and had tears in my eyes.

Yeah I think Rylan is better as a presenter than a singer, maybe that's his strongpoint, think he works well with Ruth, but I think that's the only other he's co hosted with, Ben Shephard also works well with Ruth, also with Jenni Falconer,as they hosted several weeks a go, that is probably from the GMTV days.

I disagree with you about Coleen, because when she returned in 2010, she presented a number of times between then and 2012 and she was quite good, she'd probably be alongside Ben. I hope they don't have Amanda Holden on a gain, she was terrible.

I apologise there. Coleen was good from 2010 onwards with the features she did.

Was is John Leslie, Twiggy, Colern and Fern in 2001 when Richard and Judy left or have I missed someone out?

From what I remember, it was Coleen and Twiggy and then John and Fern presented on the Friday.

Looking at the BBC News article from 2001, it says:

"The pair had been presenting the show in rotation with John Leslie and Fern Britton, who is currently on maternity leave."

I remember Ruth presenting with John Leslie, also I remember Lorraine Kelly hosting with Phillip schofield, but this must have been a few years after

Lorraine did Mondays and Fridays for a couple of years whilst Phil was hosting 5 days a week and Fern just the three.

The original plan was to have John & Fern replace Richard & Judy, but Fern became pregnant, with the baby due on the day the show was back on air. Granada proposed to have John with a stand-in for September, with Fern rejoining in October. Fern declined the offer as for medical reasons she knew she would need a caesarian which would involve a long period of recovery.

However Coleen and Twiggy were so shocking that Granada made Fern an offer she couldn't refuse (along with paying for the baby to be cared for at the studios) so within a matter of months she was back on air with John five days a week.

After about a year, John went down to four days a week and Philip Schofield started covering on Fridays. It wasn't long after this that Ulrika-gate broke out, and Philip went five days a week with Fern for another year.

At this point, the exhaustion of raising a baby, Ulrika-gate, and the general business of getting the show back on track had exhausted Fern, and she told her bosses that she intended to leave. ITV offered a part time contract which she wasn't happy with as she felt a more full time commitment was needed to make the programme work. They managed to reach a compromise that she would do part time - three days a week - but once the baby went to school it would increase to four.

It is arguable that without Fern the show wouldn't have survived those rocky couple of years after Richard and Judy left.
