Is the idea with the 10:55 news that it's about equidistant between the end of GMB and the start of the Lunchtime News? (Possibly also explaining away the axing of the 09:00 Lorraine update?)

The Liverpool set up was on a the same level as Albert Dock. The London studio is higher up so this limits what can be seen.
Although when they moved to London they maintained a similar set which made greater use of the windows:

This morning really should try and make more of an effect to use that view of the thames, like it used to do with Liverpool.
This just looks better...

It did indeed. They spent years in London swapping the seats for sofas in the centre area, although they had the second sofa set. Because of the angled sofas for interviews these days you hardly see the window as a backdrop.
The fashion area has been tweeked to show stairs at the back and decorated in blue with a new cabinet. I hope that the blue in most areas doesn't feel too cold as we approach the winter.
Also to note that the credits still contain a hub producer.

I don't know about the hub, whether it is here to stay or not because on Wikipedia it says 'The Hub was dropped in September 2014 following a set revamp', but anyone could have wrote it?

I did find the 'The Hub was dropped in September 2014 following a set revamp' In the hub section, but who knows? (the TM crew!)

Such as shame about The Hub IMO - it was a fresh, modern, feature and was an excellent way to engage with the viewers and get viewers opinion.
As a viewer, I wonder if I'm in the minority that isn't interested in other viewers opinions.
It was fresh and modern when it launched but that was some years ago.

In a sense I agree with you, sometimes when you watch it's just people saying their husband/wife/(other family member) once did whatever their discussing and you really couldn't care less. Then other times when it's a more serious issue and people do say something that can be a nice point to add in.
Regardless, the hub does adds further depth to the show and provides a change-up. I hope they haven't scrapped it.
