What a splendid send off for Fern. She will be sorely missed.
Until watching today, I didn't even realise that before becoming permanent stand in that she'd done the show on & off for 20 years.
She has been in my opinion the thing that's saved the programme since Richard & Judy left. During the Coleen & Twiggy era, the saving grace was the fact that Fern was only on maternity leave & would be returning to the programme, just as she did. The partnership with Phillip has made the show work so well.
The good bye was very emotional, I was even feeling it myself. Seeing Phil break down at the end showed how much of a friendship that they shared, though maybe a hug would have been more suitable than a slap on the arm. Even with the news of Fern leaving I still think that they have worked great together, and the chemistry has still been there between the two of them.
I do wonder what path the show will take, especially with a new editor coming on board. I did like Chris Moyles' little message on how the show won't be the same without Fern, except for the format & theme tune, etc.
Good luck Fern
