I'll edit that, I didn't think this thread would still be going when I started it.

There was another thread based around the new look- I bumped this one because I couldn't find the other. Its great to hear the ratings are up, and Phil confirmed via his Twitter account that male viewership is well up than this time last year. Of course thats to do with the quality of the show and not Holly ... Laughing

One thing that annoys me is people say she is too young to present the show. Well Fern Britton was 31 when she presented her first show! Holly isn't far off that age.

Apparently ITV1 is now ahead of BBC1 in daytime.

Fern Britton worked on Coast to Coast back in the 80's then on to Ready steady cook during the 90's . on top of that she worked on GMTV, BBC breakfast time and also on TM in the ealry 90s;

And Phillip Schofield worked with Gordon the Gopher and a Technicolour Dreamcoat! It's a magazine show, not the news - and you don't need years of journalistic experience to be able to empathise during those difficult personal interviews or to tackle the issues of the days with guest politicians.

This Morning going seven days a week with weekend compilation shows.

Its a good short term fix but its going to damage the show in the long term. They should maybe split it into two themed shows though, for example having an entertainment led show on Saturday presented by Holly & Phil with a lifestyle/factual show on a Sunday presented by Ruth & Eamonn.

Its going to go into overkill soon though, assuming they are taking a summer break This Morning is now going to be on air every day (bar 2 bank holidays) until mid-July, if not then its going to be about 3 or 4 bank holidays and on air every day until Christmas!

If they insist on a compilation show, they should just have the one on a Sunday. Although another option could be to have Ruth & Eamonn just presenting an hour long version of This Morning on the Saturday/Sunday, even if they're both recorded on Friday afternoon). But as a long term option, I can't see the weekend shows lasting too long.

I wouldn't worry about them being on every day in the autumn - I imagine they'll be quietly dropped by then. I agree though one show on the Sunday would make more sense than airing it on Saturday and Sunday.

Some sources are saying it will be presented by Peter Andre & Myleene Klass (presumably with Kate Thornton taking over when shes back from 71 Degrees North) so if thats true, its almost a certainty it won't see the summer.

What will they show? STV has hardly any decent programmes.

John,

Fern also presented BBC News After Noon alongside Richard Whitmore for several months as a temporary replacement for Moira Stuart, who had been promoted then to main presenter of BBC Early Evening News.

Fern was amongst a host of other regional presenters who shared the slot next to Whitmore (others were Frances Coverdale, Sue Carpenter, Anne Diamond and - from Scotland - it was Jane Franchi!)

As for This Morning going to seven days - overkill!! Too much is too much.
