Fern is taking a short break when she returns from Cuba to be with her family, before returning in the NY.
God knows the media have shoved her through it over the past year so I think she deserves a little comfort and privacy for at least 3 weeks.
Fern currently presents 4 days a week with Ruth and Eamonn on Fri. Recently I think she's pared it down to 3, with Ruth and Phil on Thursdays... although I could be wrong.

Its been on the cards for a while- Holly Willoughby said she is presenting on the 5th December (which is a Friday) last time she was on speaking about X Factor. I thought something was odd back then, and as the 5th is a Friday, maybe Ruth will do Fern's shifts and guest hosts will do Ruth's? Or maybe for that one week?

I thought that bout Holly too but thought it may just cause Ruth and Eamon are taking a xmas break as I believe Phil is hosting that Friday aswell.
Its only been since last week Fern has done 3 days as she flew to Cuba last Thursday.
It apparently has left show bosses in a muddle as they have no cover planned and Ruth may not be available all week.

I'm sure Phil said that he was hosting Dec 5th with Holly, which should be a good show as I do enjoy Holly's presenting. When I've watched it this evening, the team knew before they were talking as Phil even raised it by asking a question about resting, how long they've known is another matter. Presumebly Ruth will step in, but as has been said, she may not be available all week, especially that first week in December, as I presume that Ruth & Eamonn will be taking a Christmas break thus they aren't doing the Friday. Thinking about it, even though they only do Fridays during term time, they haven't actually been off since before the summer holidays.
It will be interesting to see what happens though.
