Wonderful one-off tonight - nice to see the main characters back together, with a great script and fantastic acting which matched the original series.
Well done to Jack, Daniela, Andrew, Amita and Jason for taking the decision to get back together for the show, and to Amy Jenkins for a top-quality script.
Thing is, I want more new This Life now - at least the concept has been kept open-ended...
If you caught This Life +10 tonight, what did you think of it?
I was a little disappointed, to be honest. I missed out on the original series in the 90s, but quite enjoyed the recent late night repeats.
Tonight's? A bit obvious. My flatmate kept on getting annoyed at the "ooh, we're playing 90s music on an iPod" scenes, and the storyline wasn't too surprising.
On the other hand, some of the characters were much as were to be expected. Miles, for example...
I was realy looking forward to it but i was disappointed with it.I wanted Miles and Anna to go off together i didn't like the country house setting either.Part of the shows charm was the old flat and the shots of London.Next time i bump into Danielle i'll tell her that i was not happy with it and that she should have run off with Miles. She is extremely nice and very down to earth. It was nice to see them all again though.
Having looked forward to this for weeks, I found it very disappointing. I was hooked on the programme ten years ago but found this reunion dull, banal and clichéd. I really switched off when they did the classic, Eastenders style "eavesdropping through the baby monitor" thing. I cared little, in the end, about what happened to the characters though I suppose the loose ends were tied up. As always, Milly remained my favourite character and I still slightly fancy Egg.
Too much information?
Verdict: worth watching but disappointing, 6.5/10.
I too was a little disappointed, but then I think I knew I would be, as it would take a lot to top the original. But for me it hasn't spoilt the legacy of the show.
The story was a bit dull, some bits contrived, some bits too rushed (Miles's wife ran off a bit too early on), and the end scene was quite dreadful - but how could they ever top one of TV's best ever "final scenes" from the original - so why try?
I still enjoyed watching as it allowed us to "nose in" on their lives when so many dramas and series never afford us that chance. In my mind it has allowed the characters to still be living on!
I enjoyed the 90s music - they
had
to have music from "their era" together, and when I heard the Portishead track it made me all nostalgic!
