1. Presenters introducing a show by saying "Hello, and welcome to <title>, the show where <tagline>.

2. Promos using Trish Bertram's voice. She sounds far too pleased with herself, and it seems put on.

3. Presenters who get a job just because there are who they are, irrelevant of the programme. (such as Mel Sykes on The Vault)

4. Trevor McDonald being treated as top dog at ITN.

5. The need for presentation to be generic. (eg, all promos/idents being the same style)

6. The assumption that one channel needs many idents when one was enough in the olden days.

care to continue the list....?

Fox Kids used to take things one step further. Every ident would have this VO:
"Fox Kids Presents (name of programme)" This lasted through the first three sets of idents - 1996-1998. The station launched in the USA in 1993, and I think the annos were identical there. It may be the fact they got the rights to Dennis and Gnasher - a British show which they've never broadcast across the pond - which scupped this practice.

CNBC US do this as well. All their programs have a voiceover at the start i.e.

"From the financial captial of the world, CNBC Presents Business Center. Live from the New York Stock Exchange, with Ron Insana and Sue Herera."

Hi, I'm Sue Herera. Ron Insana has the day off.

A typical example of this would be when David Letterman was off sick for about 5 weeks with shingles
earlier this year, and more recently when Letterman decided to take a few Fridays off. As the official
title of his show is "The Late Show With David Letterman", as opposed to just "The Late Show", the
announcer (not the CBS station announcer, but Letterman's own anno) always said, for example,
when "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammar filled in for Dave one Friday a few weeks ago . . .

Quote:

From New York . . . the greatest city in the world! It's The Late Show
with David Letterman! Dave's guest host tonight is Kelsey Grammer.
Kelsey's guest tonight are . . .

In instances like this, they can't really change the name of the show, to fit the guest host.

Otherwise, instead of this . . .

They'd have to change the logo and opening titles with this . . .

Somehow, I very much doubt they change the official title of the show just for guest hosts . . .

Incidentally which stations is the "Larry Scutta Show" on?

I have checked my local listings, but cannot find it.

Is it of the same genre as Merv Griffin?

Oh, and what really irritates me most is when you watch a show and it comes back from commercials and it's just the end credits.

And end credit promotions really annoy me too.
