Both HTV and BBC TWO Wales have programmes for the Queen's opening of the Assembly today in Cardiff. One Plaid AM said she's boycotting it due to her personal republican politics.
They had some ex-Bridgend woman who was a professor at Liverpool Uni on Wales Today being very diplomatic about the whole thing, since WT obviously weren't brave enough to speak to a real Liverpudlian who'd likely be cheerful and ready to sing Liverpool's praises without question..
She was saying how people can pop over and see how *beautiful* North Wales is [I think *I* will be the judge of that, thank you..] and added more fuel to the usual northern whinge, that Cardiff doesn't care about the north, rubbish Assembly, ra ra ra.. so really Liverpool winning isn't such a bad thing for them.
Rhyl and Prestatyn are the crime hotspots of Wales [and Newport]. I like Llandudno though, and Colwyn Bay has just picked up a Blue Flag beach award you know. Wales have the most in the country, 33 -- Scotland only have 4!
Well, England have 37, but they're much bigger, so that doesn't count..
The Australian woman who was part of the Cardiff bid was going on about something in 2005 for Cardiff instead, 104 projects or something? I missed the fine details. And she wasn't buying the excuse that Cardiff didn't expand into the valleys enough, she cited a few examples of where they had done. She reckons Cardiff may have come second.
Oh well, it's no great loss. HTV News didn't waste much time talking about it then -- I watched Granada for about 5 or 6 mins and they'd only just got going. Back on HTV and they'd already moved on! They had some nice graphics though for it all.
It's disappointing news to hear that ITV1 Wales continuity is recorded, what a poor performance. It's a real *nothing* situation really -- what does it all mean? Do Sue and Leighton work for about an hour recording them all, and that's it, only for some of them to get scrapped and overlaid by English announcers, especially in the daytime?
If I remember, I watch things on Scottish/Grampian, and it's *miles* more professional, I wish it could be the same for Wales. Well-timed and opted junctions, own branded trails and idents, with local music for local people, it's really the best in the country.
Oh and BMI Baby's laugh is getting on my nerves.
