Seems a win win situation ITV. no longer will be in hock to Syco productions and the BBC will be free to make the Generation Game (which they own) or something similar. By 2017 TC1 studio will be available and is cheaper than renting HQ1 from Peel in Salford. Whatever the licence fee settlement is the BBC is more likely to want to save money. If all goes according to plan the BBC Studios business will be keen to use its own facilities for its productions.

God knows they need some big rating tentpole programmes apart from Big Brother which is declining after every series.

By the time Channel 5 got Big Brother it was already dead. Channel 4 axed it because it had run its course, and nobody, not even Channel 5, wanted to pick it up. Was only when Dirty Des took over and saw it as something to sell copies of the Daily Star that they bought it.

Everyone is suspecting ITV. What if Viacom have surprised us all and got it for Channel 5? God knows they need some big rating tentpole programmes apart from Big Brother which is declining after every series. The Voice could do quite well for them.

It's not like The Guardian to make things like this up: http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/nov/07/future-of-the-x-factor-in-doubt-as-itv-poaches-the-voice-from-bbc

Isn't the generation game
a Dutch format like the voice?

Yes, it was. I think Bill Cotton saw it while visiting The Netherlands, and thought it would be an excellent vehicle for Bruce Forsyth. He was dead right !

Do you have the costings to backup that assertion?

The press release suggests that The Voice will co-exist alongside XF, which is probably a bit optimistic given the current peformance of XF.

I wonder if we will see any schedule movement. The Voice may well be the bigger show than XF by then so it would make more sense to have it on in the Autumn in the run up to the peak Christmas advertising period. The Voice Kids will presumably be a summer filler.

It will be interesting to see what happens with coaches given that they seem to have a difficult enough job in finding people to sit on the panel on XF let alone fill a whole other panel.

I wonder if ITV buying and now owning Talpa Media from John De Mol played a part in them getting the show which was actually created by him as well...

Of course it does - they're basically paying themselves for it.

Tom Jones would come back. He never wanted to leave.

Surprised they've made such a long commitment. I just thought they'd do the kids series (which will undoubtedly flop) and then the main series and then give in.
