If The X Factor were some regular talent contest, it would never have really got off the ground as it did.
Is it not? It's massively over hyped but it is just a talent contest, although the amount of 'talent' they find is debatable

The issues this year are a crap group of 'personalities' on the judging panel, the girl who was voted off by her mentor in the first week being the saving grace talent wise, and as a result a tired feeling programme.
I think the problems with it were over-stated, I only watch the auditions and thought the judging line-up was a breath of fresh air. The problem I think was that they did what the programme is supposed to be and put through who they thought had talent and not the freaks that make good telly. The ratings were down on last year but last years series was the highest rated and there has to be a peak at some point.

What exactly is the format of The Voice? Lmao. X Factor without being able to see the contestants in the auditions?
I think there's a bit more to it than that but it does seem like it's more on what someone sounds like rather than other factors like stage presence, looks etc. In that way it might well be a good antidote to X Factor which is based on all those things, and judging by some of the winners not even on voice!
I'd have thought the genre of music and age range of contestants might be very different too, I suspect less pop and more standards. I don't think it will have the same audience profile.

Wow, anything passes for a format these days.
Well, the X Factor (and Pop Idol for that matter) was hardly an original innovative format.

I wouldn't underestimate Simon Cowell and his team just yet. If it were merely down to ITV, then yes X Factor would be screwed, but there are people involved who know how to make a better entertainment show than the BBC in general.
They're not actually competing though are they?
Personally I think that people are just becoming bored of the whole karaoke contest thing after 10 years of X-Factor/Pop Idol/Stars, if they aren't now they soon will be. Everything has it's day, we'll see whether The Voice blows new life into the genre.
I think, probably deliberately, and for the right reasons, hype on the Voice hasn't appeared yet. Remember that in most cases, hype can lead to potential failure. It's a different kettle of fish, but remember the big hype over Daybreak, which landed it with lots of criticism and a newspaper slating.
With the comparisons to Strictly in the article, let's not forget that the executive producer for Strictly for the past few years has moved to The Voice, Moira Ross. She has made all of the positive changes we've seen, and has been behind the programme's highest ratings yet.
When it gets nearer to March, the coverage will obviously increase. I think awareness of the show is surely important.
The show has all the right ingredients for a massive hit, whether it be the format, being serious singing, the coaches especially, much better than X Factor, and presenters. I have little doubt that it will be successful.
Irish version started tonight. Seems decent enough. Judges are some bloke called Bressie (Niall Breslin), Sharon Corr from The Corrs, Kian Egan from Westlife and Brian Kennedy who represented Ireland in the Eurovision a while back.
Just found out that The Voice is moving to Fountain Studios for the Battle Rounds and live shows. Very good move. Also a promotional picture will be released soon, possibly midnight tonight.

I thought that the live shows were happening around the same time as Britain's Got Talent? I assume that they no longer clash?

I was thinking the same thing. BGT uses the huge Fountain Studio as I assume The Voice will be. They can't be at the same time can they? Is BGT moving to another venue? I'm confused.

Surely they won't be following the American way of doing things and putting The Voice on, on a Tuesday night? Did notice Holly Willoughby isn't at This Morning for a week either...
