The Talent show format ‘The Voice’ which BBC and ITV have been in a bidding war for has been snapped up by the BBC. The programme will air later this year on BBC 1.

I for one am very excited about this project but a few queries have come to mind:

/What does it mean for Strictly Come Dancing which is returning in the autumn of this year? Will they return on different nights?

/ The programme seems a bit un-BBC in terms of presentation and idents the logo for example is a bit chavy will they use the same one or have their own?

/The Judges in America theirs the likes of CeLo Green and Christine Agulleria will any of the US panel be on the UK show? And are the BBC prepared to splash out big cash to get the likes of Cheryl Cole and Danni Minnouge (both reported to be linked with the programme) onto the panel ? especially with the amount of cuts the BBC are making and the BBC Trust who don’t seem to like big money programmes.
/ The winning prize in the US is a headline show in LA do we assume the prize hear will be a recording contract but who with if it’s an all singer panel then unless you have Gary Barlow (who you can’t ) or Will I am who are the only singers with record labels which spring to mind then you don’t have any natural associations with any label.

It wont clash with SCD as The Voice isn't airing until next year.

Sorry if I was not clear putting this , I meant for next year, if the Programmes Director is speaking about him trying not to make clashing with X Factor then I assume it will be airing in the autumn if this is correct then what does it mean for SCD?

Yeah, X Factor and SCD start in August/September, So The Voice can be anytime between January and July without clashing with The X Factor.

That's what I thought but why was their need for Danny Cohen to even mention trying to avoid clashing with The X Factor ?

So that people wouldn't think the BBC would show a new singing show at the same time as one which is very well established and is one of the most watched programmes in the UK.

I suppose but it just seemed odd to me that's all.

It will be a great show, as long as they don't ruin it by choosing Graham Norton to host it! Shocked

Why is it odd? Obviously the BBC don't want to go up against an established and popular show that is essentially the same thing with a slightly different format. That would be ratings suicide - everybody who likes these singing shows would obviously be torn between the two. That's why Strictly Come Dancing does well up against the X Factor - they are catering for slightly different audiences. Scheduling The Voice against something completely different (such as I'm A Celeb, Britain's Got Talent, etc.) would be much more sensible.

I don't mean that I meant mentioning the X Factor in the first place when there is no need to do so.

I have a feeling it will be Alex Jones who presents it.

I've that fear too. Depends what happens with Let's Dance too - if The Voice airs in January it'll probably be a rush job to finish in time for Let's Dance in mid-Feb. Otherwise it might air in the Spring - but then they'll be fighting Britain's Got Talent for attention.

It all relies on the judges - NBC pretty much got it spot on in the US. Thankfully as the format stipulates they must be credible musicians that rules out Cheryl Cole.
