Seeing as it's "Superbowl Sunday" and given the fact that coverage of the event is about to start on five (it's already
started over on Sky Sports) I've created this thread for discussions about the presentation of the event, as shown
on both five and Sky. Maybe also, the members of this forum living in the US itself, can also make contributions.

Heck, you can even talk about the actual SuperBowl game itself, as it happens, too if you wish!

(IIRC, I started a SuperBowl thread here on the night of last year's event, and it turned out to be quite popular . . . !)

In time honoured tradition . . . discuss . . . !

I wish I could stay up all night for it, but some of us have to be up early.

But do Five keep in the decent American ads or do they opt out?

As a general point, please stop creating threads with no actual starting point. It comes across (even if it isn't intended) as a lame attempt to "be the first one to start the thread about it" which I can't see the fascination about anyway.

Twisted Evil

I just hope BBC ONE's decision to show a film about a terrorist attack on the Super Bowl on the night of the Super Bowl doesn't turn out to be a mistake..!

It's also on Premiere Sport FTA on 19.2E, and it's available in English!

From a pres point of view:

five seem to have the NFL International feed commentators and graphics

Sky have on Sky Sports 1 the CBS feed and commentators and on Active the international feed with there own commentators (including FOX NFL commentator Nick Halling) at the game + Fanzone commentary on the internaional feed.

On the game:

Seems to be breaking out abit from the defensive and cautious first quater. Hopefully the Panthers, who havent had much of the game will go ahead soon!

"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."
- NFL Executive Vice President Joe Browne

"The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."
- Leslie Anne Wade, CBS Spokeswoman.

"I'll get you naked by the end of this song."
- Justin Timberlake, before the "wardrobe malfunction" Wink

The event: Justin Timberlake pulled off part of Janet Jackson's costume, revealing one of her breasts, during the superbowl half time show. (see http://www.drudgereport.com/mattjj.htm for pics...and yes, they contain nudity; see also http://www.gblesports.com/janet_superbowl.avi for a video of this). MTV claims it was unplanned but if you hurry up and look at (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1484644/20040128/index.jhtml?headlines=true), you'll find this sentence ("There are some shocking moments in there too.")

I can't wait for tomorrow's papers and the news network commentators to start talking about this. If there's one sure way to ENRAGE! the right-wing, it's to denigrate one of their sacred institutions*** (like pro-football)--I'm not kidding, by the way. Don't be surprised if Al Qaeda flies an airplane into MTV studios or if Jackson and Timberlake are arraigned on drugs charges in the next few days. Wink

*** Other right-wing sacred institutions include: the church, the presidency, the GOP, John Wayne, Cadillac cars, the space programme, the military, and anything that is anti-Muslim extremist, anti-Communist and pro-oil. Sacred left-wing institutions include: angry feminists, abortions, contraceptives, Affirmative Action, illegal immigration, government programs to reward foreign terrorists, the IRS, Bill Clinton, promiscuity, homosexuality and "medicinal" marijuana. It's funny because it's true Wink.

IT WAS DEFINITELY INTENTIONAL!

I mean, look at the thing that's on her boob! That doesn't look like a thing to wear for comfort purposes!

It's a nipple ring.

And you make a good point.

Looks to me as though Michael isn't the only member of the Jackson family to have had cosmetic surgery! Wink Shocked

Isn't it shocking to think you have to apologise for showing a breast! Personally speaking, I'm pretty certain it was one of the first things I ever saw in my life so I got used to them at an early age!

Why should *anyone* be shocked by it? Turned on.. maybe.. disgusted? How!?

We'd better warn the organisers of Carnival in Rio to prepare apologies for all yanks! Or.. is it, by chance, possible that Americans are NOT offended but CBS is making a tit of itself?

Did anyone notice the inclusion of live timeslices [the proper nane for 'the matrix effect'] during pre-game entertainment?

Wasn't this supposed to be in HD Widescreen in the US.

Did it survive/was it shown in 16:9 widescreen in the UK?

Or did we get some dodgy HD->525->625 feed.
