Shame to see Grampian bite the dust, the new ident is typical of an ident today, boring and unimaginative.

Because no one likes to be stereotyped!
Do you think that all neds come from Glasgow, OAPs fill up Edinburgh, and unemployed people stay in Dundee?
That was a very immiture post.

So it now looks like SMG's cutbacks are so great that their ident now involves people reduced to holding their logo on a bit of cardboard ... :p

You've unwittingly stumbled on the problem with this set of idents (and the blue square ones in 2000) - they're too exclusive for the audience. They may resonate with advertisers who want to think they're on an aspirational channel, but ideas of models parading and going to a posh restaurant don't really match with what STV viewers do in their day to day lives. It's not quite as out of place as the style awards, but it's on the same level - like everyone at STV would really like to be working on Channel 4, but they're actually on a station which resembles a poor cable channel.

Incidentally the standards are slipping on the adverts - there's a factory shack advert going out with blatant spelling mistakes on locations - "Cyldebank" anyone?

I'm watching Soccer Aid. it's the ads right now, and there was a black screen for about 20 seconds, then the new STV logo appeared with this message underneath:
STV Productions 2006
It looked quite nice, actually.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Grampian doesn't have a website at the moment. www.grampiantv.co.uk just goes to the Scottish TV website.
