Can't see it happening any time soon, they introduced a new competition yesterday "UTV's Cash & Carry" which they've been trailing like mad both between programmes and on UTV Live! They have also changed their rules in that they usually announce the winners on u.tv, however they have been acknowledging that some people are worried about the competitions and so have started drawing the winners names from a "big blue bucket" instead!

stv plan to run a series of reports on Scotland Today to celebrate the channel's 50th Birthday, and they are currently considering programming ideas, offering viewers a look back at 50 years of stv, from the first broadcast to the very latest. Plans will be confirmed mid 2007.

Complementing the news programming in 2007 will be a long running series throughout the year, looking at current affairs and hot topics in an innovative and engaging way. stv are introducing this new current and business affairs strand to change the way politics is portrayed on television, by making it lively, accessible and relevant to the people of Scotland.
As a series which will run for a large part of the year, stv will have the scope to investigate and cover a wide range of topics in depth. In order to make this as accessible as possible, stv plan to broadcast this series in peaktime, 7.30pm on Thursdays. Guests on the programme will be from across the length and breadth of the country.

With Scottish Parliament elections coming up in 2007, stv will bring back Scottish 500, whereby a cross-section of society will be invited to question the political leaders in a live Q&A style debate, hosted by political editor, Bernard Ponsonby.

New Found Films – the feature films produced as part of stv's joint initiative with Scottish Screen. The BAFTA winning films Night People and Blinded, have both had successful cinematic releases and the will hit the small screen on stv.

Digital Spy posted:
Executive director of Scottish Media Group, Donald Emslie, has resigned.

The news comes just a month after Rob Woodward was appointed the company's chief executive. Until then Emslie had been acting chief executive following the resignation of Andrew Flanagan in July last year.

Emslie said: "It has been a huge privilege to have led the television business of SMG and in the last year to act as the chief executive of SMG plc. I am very proud of what we achieved over a very challenging time and I am grateful for the support and dedication from all of the staff and the management team. There is a very solid platform to build on at SMG and I am positive that the business has a very exciting future.

He will retain an involvement with SMG until the end of April, performing an advisory role to Woodward.

Richard Findlay, chairman of SMG, said: "On behalf of both the Board and the staff of SMG I would like to thank him [Donald] for his dedicated service and to wish him every success in the future."

STV wanted to give their regional programmes a better slot, but it turned out to be a disaster. The schedule changes did not last long, due to the high volume of complaints from Home and Away fans, and dwindling audiences for the regional shows in the 6.p.m. slot. Extra Time with Jim White was on a Friday, and possibly Passport Quiz with Brian Burnett midweek.
