Eugh...I dislike the way in which the logo is used.

Again, I see people doing things that aren't symbolic in any way (something in common with ITV1) and passing about this 'S' logo in these idents, but what on earth has this got to do with Scotland?

As it is a slightly old-school logo, its static 2-D form in particular, doesn't quite fit with with the modern 'people' look.

Funny how as we near the end of Grampian (something that is being missed here........come Tuesday Grampian will be GONE!!!!) that the announcer tonight has been mentioning the Grampian name in a few of the links (which suggests that they are recorded tonight). With this in mind why can this not be done all the time?

This new look is awful and I am fed up of it already!!

As for the Bobby Hain comments on Scotland Today.......his argument for changing goes totaly against everything they have said is needed for the change at Grampian!

North Scotland have caved in to the big bully at Cowcaddens...........R.I.P Grampian!! Crying or Very sad

I really like the new look. It's much better than ITV1.
I wonder what the promos and ECPs will look like.
The Grampian name will probably end at 6am on Tuesday morning, as I am guessing the new look will come into effect at 9.25am.
So, RIP Grampian, roll on STV.

Personally, from what I've seen it looks quite nice. I like the way the S is passed around through different scenes (beats the idea of just models anyway...).

Not too sure about the S. Looks a bit 1970s/80s but overall, I think this looks to be the best look since the thistle.

Has anything been said about Scotland Today/North Tonight changing at all? And what about sub-region names?

The logo is ugly, but the model video (behind it) seems classy.

and to see them animate, look at the News Report.

The resulting death of a brand name disguised as a necessity because the "old one was designed in the days before online and digital". Hilarious as well as being complete nonsense.

I can't help but think British Steel with that logo. I know the majority of us prefer a channel to have a logo over a name in a fancy font but it doesn't half look dated.

The idents are pretty plain and they're using a bit of white flash to disguise the cut where the logo isn't in the centre.

Bit disappointing I think

Other channels have moved away from people - yet ITV continues to use them.

Surely a logo-based identity works better with digital media?

Oh, and BBC1 have done this already. Around 1994 a promo featured celebs passing a giant 1 to each other - Noel Edmonds, Jim Davidson among the usual suspects.

I can certainly see the connection between British Steel and STV... though it's maybe not one SMG would appreciate!

British Steel... best associated in Central Scotland with the Ravenscraig steelworks. Demolished then a tragic reminder of Scotland's industrial decline for so long, though at least there's development there now.

STV... best associated in Central Scotland with Cowcaddens. About to be demolished. (Though, in fairness, the site won't be empty for long.)

Sadly there won't be a "Corus" of disapproval over the new name for Grampian. The damage was done a long time ago. Getting rid of the Grampian name is a bit like the final demolition of the famous Ravenscraig tower. Symbolic.

The Scotland edition of telly listings magazines must have always looked odd:

6:00pm
Scottish Scotland Today
Grampian North Tonight

6:30
ITV Evening News

(or whatever)

Two programmes both on at 6pm, but one using the word "to day " and the other using "to night " Shocked

Surely the title "Scotland Tonight" should have been introduced a long time ago???

Especially now that the "Grampian News" name has been dropped - if the north now has "North Today/Tonight", then it seems to make sense to have a consistent policy across the two regions by also having "Scotland Today/Tonight", doesn't it?

It's like when the three different "Central News" sub-regions had different policies on whether to include the "...at Six" part of the title on the 6pm edition or not. That period drove me mad. Consistency, please!

And, after all, the vast majority of ITV/channel 3 regions have an "evening variation" of the regional news title, whether it be for strictly the 6pm weekday edition only, or all evening bulletins. Central Scotland and Northern Ireland are the only current exceptions, aren't they?
