Maggie Lavender. She has been on duty since 5p.m. on Friday, with daytime continuity recorded. Obviously all the freelancers did not want to be associated with the new look.

That announcer has been on all day. I think shes mentioned the new look at (almost) every junction.
Whats her name by the way? Shes been at Scottish since the early 90s at least.

smg and their shareholders have little interest in raising viewership of programmes on itv2,3 and 4 or having any sort of unity with the other channels. what is in the company's interest is raising the profile of smg's tv operations and associating their brand with the programmes they pay vast amounts of money to itv network centre to broadcast in central and northern scotland.
what they want is for people to associate their stv brand with huge shows such as coronation st, xfactor and everything else. doesn't seem pointless to me. promoting a rival media company's brand will not increase their own profits.

It must be strange for viewers in the Grampian region who watch ITV2, 3 & 4 and GMTV and therefore see constant promos for programmes on ITV1. Yet today have seen there channel receive a new name, STV. It does seem a bit pointless, and unless the digital channels were regionalised, there's no way to avoid this

ALL TOGETHER SCOTLAND - THIS IS STV!
Glad to see the phase has brought a few (more) smileys to this thread.
Seriously though, I do like it and it reminded me that it's been a while since a TV channel in the UK has really had a catchphrase. The closest I could think of is BBC One's "One to Watch" which isn't executed that well. ITV in the past had "Britain's favourite button" (See, it stuck! People remember catchphrases.)
When you look at stations around the world you see it used quite effectively. NBC with "Must See TV" in the States for example.
I'm not saying use it at every junction, but a simple "Altogether Scotland. This is STV" would make a very nice, simple and effective pre-news announcement permanently. Go on STV - try it!

Sounds a bit 1950s actually...
I love the fact STV has to carry programming telling people to leave the channel they're watching and go and watch another channel operated by ITV PLC. Bloody hell.
Good point on the branding tvmercia - ie don't name your channel ITV1 because that will point people towards the other stations.

It must be great for you folks in the old STV area and I am pleased you have got your old station back!!
Up here though it has been all weird today......Maggie the voice is a familiar friend but everything else is alien......its like I am 6 years old and I have started a new school!!
Big talking point up here today.....lots of friends and workmates (who are not tv geeks like us) are genuinely sad to see Grampian go.
The thing that bugs me is......how much would it have cost to rebrand both the stations...........much of the voice over stuff has been recorded now anyway (unless Maggie has been working for 4 days without a break) so it would not have cost a fortune to get two sets of idents and keep two fantastic brands in Scotland!!??
Regarding the issue of "everyone calls it 3 anyhow" - this is rubbish - it will always be Grampian (for a few years anyway).

Your right there Gav!
I have to say though, that it's great to be saying STV again.
Albeit at Grampians expense.

quite - here in the midlands the central name disappeared 7 years ago and yet most people, from my experience, even in broadcasting circles still refer to it as such.

Sorry but to me, I don't like the on air package, it's boring and dull, they look like OK mocks from the Mock Design forum.
