Also, and apologies for the double post, but the NFL Players Association has announced no preseason games for 2020.

https://www.nfl.com/news/nflpa-tells-players-there-will-be-no-preseason-games-in-2020

I imagine the NFL will try to get something out for the actual season, even if it's shortened.

Being lazy.... I could dig and find out what's going on, someone here might have the correct story to hand though, am I correct in understanding that the UK&Ire MLS coverage is currently split between Sky and Premier?

If so what is the nature of the split?

Thanks.

Basically but can't find any info on the deal - possible Premier only have the rights to show it on Freesports. Think it was similarly split last year.

Sky have two matches per week, FreeSports can air some of the others I think? Not sure...

Thank you. At least the Premier League has managed to catch up without resorting to kickoffs at 0910 as happened this morning, Floridian time with an MLS fixture, and shown earlier on SS.

Gabby was on two channels at once last night with her appearance there and her presenting the Premier League on Amazon. Interesting to see her back on ITV, her spell there seems to have been a bit forgotten about now, given she's so established at the Beeb. I think the Beeb has really been the making of her, actually, I thought on ITV she sometimes came across as a bit flippant, but she now does loads of sports and does them all really well, and she seems a really nice person..

I'm maybe the exception here but despite Gabby now being on BBC far longer than she was on ITV, when she's mentioned I still think of her as an ITV rather than BBC presenter if that makes sense. I remember seeing her a lot on ITV when growing up - hosting some of their biggest sports events like the CL Final but also her popping up elsewhere like On The Ball or The Vault.

I thought she was great back in her ITV days and I've mentioned it before but I can't help thinking if today a female presenter was demoted the way she was as ITV's lead football presenter on 2006 and treated the way she was by the incoming ITV Sport head there'd be an absolute uproar. You only have to look at the reaction to Clive Tysdesley's demotion as a comparison - discussion about sports media is much more mainstream than it was back in say 2006.
But no wonder Gabby is so good these days - she's been around for years and so would've been able to work out over the years what works and what maybe doesn't work so well.

Gabby is probably the best all rounder the BBC have got now - far prefer her to Clare Balding when it comes to the Olympics.

I think there’s a bit of nostalgia from at least one poster for the original Super Sunday theme (“Here we go, this is it!”) which was used for Sky’s first five seasons (and I think was the only specially commissioned theme Super Sunday ever used). But it might be forgotten that it was almost entirely talked over, either by Bruce Hamill (I think) with “Sky Sports brings you to the heart of the action...FORD SUPER SUNDAY!” or by Richard Keys giving the speil on the broadcast to come. More headline bed than theme really, and it would never fit in with Sky’s coverage today. And I think it’s common case that the two hour build up of early Super Sundays was far too long for a regular league game. It’s a pity Sky have never really settled on a consistent memorable theme since, though I’ve a soft spot for Written in the Stars which was used for most of the first half of the 2010s.

The closest thing I can think of to a long running theme tune on Sky is 'Inner Smile' which was their League Cup theme music for well over 10 years and seemed to outlast many a Sky Sports presentation style or PL theme tune.

I do find that even when Sky do pick what feels a good song as their PL theme song they maybe don't take full advantage of the song. Kasabian's 'Club Foot' and Tom Grennan's 'Found What I've Been Looking For' were both fantastic tracks and really should've felt far more lively as Sky theme songs but ended up feeling slightly bland and uneventful.

I have a soft spot for some of the theme tunes/presentation they used around the turn of the millenium like the two below. I enjoyed the real elements like fans, stadiums in the title sequences and also some of the theme tunes make me instantly nostalgic.

As for theme tunes I didn't like - Moloko's 'Time Is Now' was completely forgettable and seemed to stick around for years (with it being used for Ford sponsor bumpers too for SSN it seemed to be impossible to avoid). And 'Higher' by Labrinth grated on me purely for the 'Hmmmmmmmm' into and out of every break.

I think the BBC are lucky to have some superb sports broadcasters. In particular any broadcast fronted by Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan, Hazel Irvine or Sue Barker (though the latter two appear more infrequently these days) is likely to be a good one IMO.

It may well not happen for a while yet but when the main MOTD gig does become vacant, I do hope that either Gabby Logan or Mark Chapman get that gig should they want it. Both have put in the broadcasting hard yards and just make sports presenting look effortless.

Yes, I really rate Mark Chapman as well and Hazel to me is the true Olympic Broadcasting Queen. To be fair to the BBC they've not had many duds over the years on the presenting front. but most have usually put the graft in either in reporting roles or on radio.

I think many people feel to that the BBC don't really need Gary Lineker, though the issue would be of course although his obvious replacements are on much lower salries at the moment, would it be fair for that to be the case if they did get the main MOTD job. It would certainly cause them issues if Gabby Logan was sent to be given Gary Linekers job at half the salary.

I dunno, I was never a fan of Club Foot or any of the early 2000s ones. I did like most of the other themes, like this one from the late 90s (albeit it is a pretty awful intro):

Then you have the Football League themes as well - almost all of which have been good, except for this season's which is slightly dull. I think it is between these two for my favourite:
