I had a look at channel4.com for it's online schedule today.

It has been updated to reflect the postponement of the qualifying highlights from Suzouka until tomorrow.

It is showing episodes of The Simpsons from 1:30pm until 3:25pm. The Secret Life of The Zoo is from 3:30pm until 4:30pm.

What about tomorrow's? Wouldn't the F1 coverage now need to be longer than originally planned?

Rain causing some issues with the tennis in Tianjin today which was originally due to start at 6:30 BST, they tried to start outdoors at 10:00 BST, and eventually moved inside which was also not without issues.

Hello, good evening, and remain indoors.

Channel 4 are not showing Q1 & Q2 session highlights today. They gave a news roundup of those sessions instead with Steve Jones giving the brief to the viewers. They are showing highlights from Q3 now before it broadcasts the highlights of the race. The presenting team for today are Steve Jones, Lee McKenzie, Mark Webber & Ben Edwards. Eddie Jordan is a noticeable absence today because he was meant to there at Suzuka but couldn't be there because of the typhoon happening yesterday. Ben Edwards & Mark Webber are doing commentary for the qualifying & presumably for the race from this morning. Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull, will also be on Channel 4 as a special guest today.

I believe Ben and Mark are working down tube from the UK so it's been a long night for them if they commentated on qualifying live. Same applies to Jack Nicholls and Jolyen Palmer on BBC radio.

If they were 'off tubing' in the UK, one guesses it was at FOM TV HQ at Biggin Hill.

During the ITV F1 days, the last Suzuka hit typhoon, ITV had three layers of back-up for the commentary, incase it was lost.

If the main Murray and Martin commentary feed - sent down off the main satellite feed was lost, they had an ISDN back up. If that was lost, it was onto the telephone line - and if that was lost, there were two freelance motorsport commentators sitting in a booth at ITV/LWT ready to call the race.

Why wouldn't they be at Whisper's resources partner - Timeline? (That's where they make the C4 highlights shows)

Aren't Ben and Mark/David the official English language commentary of FOM?

Assumed it would have been done there, with access to the data streams and other angles, than over at Timeline.

Nope. If anything, Sky's Croft and Brundle/Di Resta are the prefered English language provider. That's what FOM use on all their highlights content, as well as the F1TV online streaming.

I don't think they are the official English language broadcaster throughout the whole world like in the BBC and ITV exclusive days where everyone used Murray Walker, James Allen etc. but I believe the F1 broadcasters around the world have a choice of which team they use although I believe most use the Sky feed. Ben Edwards said at Autosport show that Channel 4 only having highlights of every race bar the British GP won't make much difference to him as his commentary alongside DC would go out live in some countries around the world.

I believe it used to be a case of the Edwards/Coulthard commentary being the FOM English world feed commentary, but Sky made the Croft/Brundle commentary available themselves and that was chosen by many who used to take the "default" option. Don't know how this has changed now that Sky are the primary rights holder.
