Not the greatest start ever for Channel 5's Formula E coverage. They cut to adverts seconds after the winner crossed the line and then piled their last 30 minutes of the broadcast with four bunches of 4 minute adverts which meant showing adverts during the podium celebrations and cutting people off half way whilst doing interviews. It was pretty horrible to watch, we never got this with ITV even though they broadcasted the whole race advert-free.

I'm going to be the first here to shout this.... Imagine if this was ITV F1. Shocked

Yes, 5's lack of a studio-based presenter (or even, actually, just a voiceover and some sustaining shots) showed up the disadvantages of relying solely on an independently-produced feed. They obviously needed to run their adverts* at specified times to meet quotas, but without someone to manage the transitions, all they could do was chop into the world feed, then resume playback after the break. Under the circumstances, they were doing the best they could, but it wasn't good to watch.

Nicki Shields had pre-recorded a few pieces to camera with a 5-branded microphone for before the race, but she was tied up doing interviews after the race.

*Incidentally, 95% of the adverts for were toys -- suggesting they'd sold the slots on the understanding that Milkshake! would be on air at that time of the morning. So we saw the winner cross the line, then cut straight to ads for Barbie!

Atrocious HD coming out of Moldova tonight on SS1 for the MDA-IRL WC2018 Qualifier.

So bad that the pitch is glistening. Have downgraded to SD. It's puddly grass being more favourable.

I didn't notice it being that bad on RTE Two HD, to be honest.

For anyone who missed it there's a great documentary that was on ITV4 last week called When Football Changed Forever, it's on ITV Hub. But it's about the last few years about the old Division 1, the insight into the way the TV rights worked. There's a lot of clips of Saint & Greavsie and The Match too.

World football’s governing body Fifa has launched a tender process for media rights in the UK to the next edition of the Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by France in 2019.

The invitation to tender covers television, IPTV, internet, mobile and radio rights for the tournament.

Following a question and answer period running from today (Tuesday) to October 28, submissions to Fifa must be received by 5pm CET on November 3. Negotiations with any preferred bidders will then commence from November 7.

Public-service broadcaster the BBC held rights to the 2015 Women’s World Cup. The tournament was staged in Canada with England progressing to the semi-finals for the first time before being defeated 2-1 by Japan.

.... and the moveable feast that's the FA Cup draw, goes on, the first round is on BBC TWO and BT Sport in separate programmes on Monday at 7pm.

You call it a moveable feast, but that's exactly what they did for the first-round draw in in 2014 and 2015.

(I think BT Sport may have incorporated it into the now-defunct SportsHUB in 2014)

........... movable on the BBC rather than BTS, should perhaps have made that clear.

It's not movable on the BBC either, it's in exactly the same slot it's always been in.

Watched that tonight and if it wasn't for a clear conflict of interest involving Alan Sugar it might have all panned out so differently had Sky not been tipped off that ITV had outbid them. I do think though whether 1992 or later Sky would have become involved at some point, but maybe in addition to free to air coverage rather than replacing it, although it seems inevitable that it would have replaced it at some point.
