I saw the F1 being shown on RTL Klub (Hungary) and they opted for the split screen option for the commercial breaks, the ads and trailers got the better half of the picture and audio included, but at least it meant that you could still see the picture, I fail to see why ITV couldn't have gone down that route.
Or do what Channel 4 used to do during Live Cricket, have more breaks, but only at 30 seconds a go, literally C4 would show the scoreboard, a breakbumper, advert and then back to the scoreboard.
To be fair to ITV they've treated the F1 very well and their coverage has been excellent, it was never as much in-depth on the BBC from last time IIRC, with any luck the BBC will take a leaf out of ITV's book.
Although I wonder if the main races will be on BBC One? They used to be on BBC Two, but as they've been on a major channel for 12 years, should it stay on a major channel.

RAI do that in Italy, one very quick advert every so often, not even a breakbumper shown. Not much is missed at all.

Maybe ten years ago, but considering most of ITV is ran from 2 or 3 bases, it wouldn't be a problem today, even having a cue dot shouldn't be an issue really.
Channel 4 have Advertising Regions don't forget, albeit all controlled from Horseferry Road.

Maybe the regional structure of ITV was an issue? They'd have to sell the slots nationally for it to work

That would probably be the best solution - and that way people actually watch the adverts too.
I believe the deal is for most races to be shown on BBC1, though occassionally they will be on BBC2 when other events take priority.
It'll be Wimbledon finals weekend which is most problematic as generally speaking that seems to be the weekend of the British Grand Prix.

The British Grand Prix is provisionally on 21st June next year, and there is no Grand Prix on finals weekend, so the Beeb have got away with that one.
In terms of the BBC1/BBC2 question, most of the Grand Prix's start at 1pm, so if the BBC's build-up was to start at 12pm (like ITV's) on BBC1 - where would the Politics Show go outside the summer months? It couldn't move to BBC2 because of the regional problem, and 3pm seems a bit late?
I will also be very surprised if the Pitpass report is correct about the BBC anchoring from a studio. Yes it would save on costs, but it would go against everything BBC Sport is about these days - there are very few live events anchored from TC5 these days - almost all on location.
Plus if MotoGP can present from location, it would look a bit dodgy if F1 can't.

That's a good point - apart from things like the Aussie Open final and the odd football match on BBC3 I can't think of any live events anchored from the studio.

Don't know if it's been mentioned before but looks like STV have a deal with Setanta Sports with regards to the champions league action....Rob McLean, Iain Croker and Burley all doing STV's coverage, looks like the action is being beemed to Setanta Ireland Also
GF
Yeh, it was in the Daily Record a few weeks back. To save money, STV have contracted out to Setanta to provide their Champs League coverage. Sadly, given that they no longer show any other football, it means the loss of the legendary Archie McPherson from our screens. Dunno how STV can live with themselves.
Don't really know what they are playing at though. If they don't bring back Scotsport Rugby Sunday, they'll have no sport department programming and lose the longest running sports programme in the world!

I would take any of the early reports as rumour and hearsay. The BBC production team for F1 is still being appointed, and I would be VERY surprised if presentation were from an (SD) TV Centre studio.
(I would expect at least as much on-site presentation as ITV currently provide - as Bernie is expecting the BBC to increase production values and improve the quality of the shows, not do it on the cheap...)
