Don't know about Scotland but there isn't highlights of Wales on the BBC anymore. There wasn't at all initially, but S4C I think now have the rights to screen highlights of games shown on Sky in Welsh, but as far as I'm aware there hasn't been any English language highlights of Wales matches since they jumped ship to Sky a couple of years back, except for the occasional away match BBC Wales may have picked up the rights for.

BBC Wales and Scotland seem to have been able to find the funds to allow their viewers to see highlights of their countries' matches. I wonder why England fans are being let down by their broadcasters. If not the BBC, then Five would seem the logical choice here.

So ITV Granada's studio is the setting of tonight's England highlights. Matt Smith making reference to their location in his opening segment.

I expect Clive Tyldsleys commentary has been added after the event as he wouldn't have been at the game as ITV didn't hold the rights ? And that being the case, after he already knew the result ?

You're CDD, Brekkie. The Russia game was on BBC1 Wales last night.

I was thinking that when I saw the end of the highlights, if these were only put together today, does that mean that he's had to watch the highlights and commentate through a usual commentaters microphone sat in some voice over booth in the UK?
As for the studio, when I first saw a screen behind Matt Smith, I first thought have they finally changed the studio, and they've started to use it early because of the rush, and then I realised it was an ITV News studio. I did initially think it would have been London, but it was the Granada.
It's a shame in a way that they couldn't have done a Nightwatch or the People's Millions and lit the studio differently, a mix of white above and a lower glow of yellow would have looked quite nice, though i suppose if it was live and there was a quick turnaround from Granada News that that wasn't possible.
On a related note, but note a sporting one. Does anyone know how the ITV regional news studios are lit, are they individual coloured bulbs, or is it set up with colour changing LED's that can be controlled to be whatever colour that they need?

When ITV Westcountry viewers were given a tour of their new set, they explained that they had the latest LEDs.

Interesting. So technically the colour of the set could be changed at the touch of a button I suppose. Though I suppose not all regions are the same, some may just have the correct coloured lights.

They would also need to have staff who knew how to drive the lighting desk to change the colour of the lighting... (Though I'd hope they had those at Granada!)
I guess that they needed a studio with a standing set - as they wouldn't have had time to cobble anything together from any sets they had in storage that they've used in London for Euro 2008 and similar coverage?
The BBC have the advantage of the permanent BBC Sport set in their TV Centre studio (which is LED lit and has multiple HD projectors allowing it to be quickly re-set to "look" different) - but then they do a lot more live sport...

Indeed they do, but it is a very good set up that they have. Thinking about ITV's studio, do they use it for anything other than football highlights? Possibly the upcoming rugby highlights.
I suppose they could do with sorting something out for a permanent studio, but what and where? Didn't they keep a generic studio set up when they had the Premiership and On The Ball?
As for a permanent space, maybe they should have words with ITN about using some studio space there. Whether it be the main news studio set up with a quick turnaround to swap the desk with sofa's (which would look very similar to the BBC Sport studio with the shape), or maybe they could use the second virtual studio and create a virtual set that looks like a real studio, rather than something like the BBC's 90's Football Focus set with the inside a football virtual set.
