Not since 2002, they've re-edited it, it's now been cropped into 16:9 and Father Christmas voiced by Mel Smith does the introduction now.
Before 2002, it was some faceless bloke walking across a misty field if I recall-- I don't know when they started using that particular intro. The Mel Smith version was recorded for the 20th anniversary, and has been used since as you point out.
I think the Snowman is a Christmas institution and 'classic', and ought to stay. Kids today still like it in my experience, I think it would be missed if it were dropped from the Christmas schedules.
Anyway it's only repeated once a year for 40 minutes or so; not like films on Five that seem to be repeated every other month ( Terminator )

David "Peace on Earth...Can it be?" Bowie always does the intro - well I'm sure that was shown last time I saw it.

Ah right! Call me thick, but I never realised that. I must admit my memory of the intro, was of his walking across a field with his back to camera.
Thanks for the clip/clarification

After my recent petitioning, I have today received the following email from Helen Pickett, on behalf of Kevin Lygo:
Quote:
Dear James
Many thanks for your letter to Kevin Lygo.
I have copied this to our scheduling team for them to take this into account the great demand for the Snowman to be placed on Christmas eve. However, we won’t know until December 4th where it will be placed until they look at the other channel’s programme scheduling. I will come back to you after that date to confirm.
Many thanks for your letter to Kevin Lygo.

Well well well... to all those who doubted my petition would work - here is the email I received from Helen Pickett of Channel Four this afternoon just to back things up:
Not quite teatime, but hey, at least it's on on Christmas Eve!
- and you all have me to thank!

Dear James
I can confirm that the Channel has gone to press and that The Snowman has been scheduled for Monday 24th December at 13.50.
Have a lovely festive season.
Thanks

Yeah, it used to always be on when my mother would be in kitchen preparing veg and wrapping last minute presents.
Obviously the 4.30 slot is occupied by Deal or No Deal or something now.

Well I think we all owe you so much for persuading C4 to screen The Snowman on the same day they've been screening it for as long as I can remember!
Rubbish time though - always used to be on around 4.30pm.

I can't remember the last time it was on on Christmas Eve - I know for a fact that two years ago it was on at about 2pm on Christmas Day though - and that's hardly a time when the whole family can settle down and watch it - hence my petition.
