I know there's a Channel Four at 25 thread that's just been created, but I felt this deserved a thread of it's own.

I know it's still rather early to think about Christmas, but I wanted to get this sent to Channel Four as quickly as possible.

A couple of years ago or so I set up a poll on TVForum asking whether people preferred seeing "The Snowman" on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

If I remember correctly, the results of the poll showed more people would prefer to see it on Christmas Eve... so this time I'm going to make it official, and have set up a petition for people to sign if they would like to see The Snowman reinstated to Christmas Eve.

I will be forwarding the petition on to Channel Four at the end of October, so please sign it if you would like to see a tradition reinstated!

Thank you!

As long as it's shown between the 24th and the 26th, I don't think it matters at all for me. When I was growing up I always remembered that it was shown on Christmas Day and then by the end of the 1990's it was shunted somewhere on Christmas Eve. Although since 2004 Channel 4 have been giving it better slots within the Christmas schedules.

As long as it's shown anyway is nice, it wouldn't be Christmas without it (well in TV terms anyway) and it's one of the only few things to be still shown on Channel 4 since 1982.

Hardly worth a petition but yes I used to like watching it on Christmas Eve in days of old when you'd see a few speckles of snow outside your window.

Well as I said on the petition, I feel it's more suited to Christmas Eve afternoons as that's when more people are likely to be in front of the telly... It would get less viewers on Christmas Day as people would be too busy with other things like having a late Christmas lunch or playing with their new presents... or even sleeping off the turkey!

Well now for many years it has been a cut-down version shown hasn't it, without the bit where he has various types of fruit substituted for his nose and then he tries on all the make up from the parents' bedroom [we've all done it].

I have in the dragon archive somewhere a recording of the Snowman from S4C probably more than twenty years ago, with David Bowie doing the intro -- with very white hair and a snowman scarf which, I can't tell you sufficiently with words alone, I wanted very much.

David "Peace on Earth...Can it be?" Bowie always does the intro - well I'm sure that was shown last time I saw it.

Not since 2002, they've re-edited it, it's now been cropped into 16:9 and Father Christmas voiced by Mel Smith does the introduction now.

Must lack the Christmas spirit, either that or it's too early to remind me it's upcoming.

Anyway, no petition signing here because one absolute is clear, no (I do mean no, don't give me any crap about Family Guy) online petition ever works.

Everytime this has been on TV in the last few years those scenes have been included, in fact I don't think (aside from the David Bowie opening) it's been edited. Apart from being badly cropped to high heaven and back in 2002 which is now the preferred way of airing The Snowman.

I did have this as well (not off S4C mind but off Channel 4) from many years ago. Might still have it. The David Bowie opening hasn't been seen for years but its available on the DVD released in 2000 (apparently). The Raymond Briggs opening has never been released on DVD, but the current Father Christmas opening one seems to be in favour at the moment.

Not fussed about when its on. More interested in them showiing the 1984 original version for once, with the 'Proper' Raymond Briggs intro. Not the s**ty Bowie or Father Christmas intros. Evil or Very Mad
