Is it really that severe and/or unusual? I'm only 24 but I recall snow storms much worse then this being a yearly occurrence when I was young. It just doesn't seem that bad to me and should be at least the bare minimum the country could cope with. I would've expected to be able to at least catch a bloody bus!

If you're 24 and remember it from childhood, then that would be about right. They said, "worst in 18 years" - so those two facts aren't contradictory.

There's no doubt that they could have done better - but we generally have a mild climate here - and one would imagine that the resources for shifting problem snowstorms has eroded away somewhat.

How much does it cost to keep us in a state of readiness for a 1 in 18 year blizzard?

Besides, this is both severe and unusual weather - certainly for the South East - where the majority of the disruption is.

Snow in winter - how unusual!

2007-2008 winter had no snow fall hardly at all in South Wales which is totally not right.

Shocking, really. Heads should roll.

*sigh*

Yes Brekkie - as much as it pains you to be incorrect, snow is unusual in the South East.

Well here in the Isle of Man where i am, there is virtually no snow on the ground, but my bus today managed to be 40 minutes late, which made me quite a bit late.

as I said on the eastenders thread, no outdoor filming for today as they are filimg April, whatever the bunting is for I think it's been canceled Shocked

probably the same for corry and emerdale who I think film about 6 weeks ahead

just thought, in it's entire 21 year run I never remember seeing any snow on Brookside, maybe they were just lucky with their filming shceduals

To bad they could not film the Christmas episode today, would save them a lot on fake snow. Smile

the fake snow is usually foam or paper, gues if they have to they could wash it all away

remember snow on the Big breakfast where somebody chucked a snow ball at Chris Evans and he went inside and sulked leaving Gaby Roslin to do the link on her own Sad
