I work on a live daily show and I can't make it in today!

More information needed, please.

Why would you need more information? He can't get to work like a lot of people.

Well, this is a thread about how people not being able to get in to work has affected television. I was just wondering if Jay not being able to get in to work would be noticed by the viewer or just by his colleagues who had to cover him.

I'm a Researcher on a quiz show, so not noticed on-screen...

Amazes me how this country falls apart with a bit of snow - and I'll get the usual complaint of "it's only news because it's in London" in! I'm a bit baffled as to why the Underground is closed though - I'd have thought the fact it is "underground" would mean snow isn't too much of an issue! Confused

Can't think of there being anything in primetime which would be largely affected this week perhaps The One Show - though surely by 7pm they can get something together. There is live football though this week with the FA Cup replays, and tomorrow's Arsenal v Cardiff fixture is already off - I assume that was due to be shown by Setanta. Liverpool v Everton is due on ITV1 on Wednesday, just about when the heavier snow is due to hit the North West.

The majority of the London Underground is actually above ground, believe it or not!

The old systems means the signals have failed, causing major problems, as well as points freezing. From my station this morning there was 1 train in 5 hours - and it made it as far into London as Harrow (Zone 5), before turning round and coming back. i agree, it's ridiculous!

I agree it's a bit pathetic, especially when you compare it to the ice storms that have battered the (still running!) east of the US recently causing real death and destruction. What have we here?... 4/5 inches of slush?...and the whole country descends into chaos. Rolling Eyes Sky News actually described it as "Arctic Conditions" this morning.

God the Brits do like to moan when things stop working, don't they?

5 - 15cm of snow may not sound much, but spread across hundreds of miles of road, track and runway it turns into tons and tons to be shifted. It doesn't matter how many trucks and gritters the councils put on - you'll never stop disruption.

But I'm sure its easier and more fun to sneer from the sidelines.

Other countries manage with worse conditions yet less disruption.

Yes but other countries have those conditions a lot more often and have the equipment/plans to deal with them. This is the first time in over 15 years that the south east has been hit by snow like this.

Other countries are no strangers to disruptive weather - its a common misconception that only Britain can't cope with it.

Besides, this is both severe and unusual weather - certainly for the South East - where the majority of the disruption is.

Yes, severe and unusual - but despite the fact we've all known about it for the past 4 or 5 days, we seem to have been so unprepared that most roads in London didn't even SEE a gritter!!

Is it really that severe and/or unusual? I'm only 24 but I recall snow storms much worse then this being a yearly occurrence when I was young. It just doesn't seem that bad to me and should be at least the bare minimum the country could cope with. I would've expected to be able to at least catch a bloody bus!

I am actually glad in one way the snow is here.

2007-2008 winter had no snow fall hardly at all in South Wales which is totally not right.
