Well, I was willing to give the BBC the benefit of the doubt but they just broadcast a VT clock on BBC One before Panorama started. This is not good enough, they just don't seem to care at all. Shut it down. Abolish the BBC!

What?

Thanks for clarifying, Sam (although I did actually see the clock myself).

I understand that David was referring to the clock; the bit that I didn't get was where he made out that a brief transmission error was somehow proof that the BBC "don't seem to care at all", that they should "shut it down" and that we must "abolish the BBC".

What appalling stupidity.

The VT clock is usually an indication that the programme was finished very late and either was just chucked in a machine or is being played from the edit suite.

As for the programme, interesting that the reporter on the ITV programme was a contributor on the Newsnight story and took over lots of the research. a bit of an own goal there!

Either way this programme has open up even more worms, which highlights how badly the BBC dealt with this story since 3 weeks ago. To say incorrect details has pretty poor.

What other story might have been dropped?...................................

What appalling stupidity .

From yourself, obviously not understanding David's point at all.

Evidently not. How stupid I've been. The fault was with me for assuming that people would afford this topic an appropriate degree of gravity, by discussing it with some maturity, rather than infusing it with levity just to have a dig at others.

I assumed that David was being serious, not frivolous. Given the hilarity of the underlying subject matter, that was really stupid of me.

If you'd engaged your brain when it came to reading this thread, you'd realise the forum favourite in question is having what we call round here a joke. Regardless of whether you deem said joke to be appropriate or not, it's pretty clear it's a joke.

What did happen in 1962?

John Simpson joined the BBC!

Except (according to one of his own autobiographies) it was 1966. He's wishing his life away !!

David was actually making a very serious, not frivolous, point that most people here were intelligent enough to get.

Garbage.

Finally, someone speaking some sense! If I did make "a very serious, not frivolous, point" then I can assure you that it was not intentional. My post was actually just to point out that a clock was displayed on screen before the programme last night, I did this in a frivolous and inappropriate way. I regret nothing.

Mmm. Some might say that your endless shtick wears thin for the regulars and is disruptivly confusing for casual members.

Not me though. I wouldn't say it.

But I'm certainly thinking it loudly.
