This thing of 'the worst crisis in the BBC for 50 years' is sticking it seems, which is odd as it's totally spurious
Nothing scandalous happened in 1962 and arguably the Dr Kelly/Hutton incident was bigger than this. It seems to be just something John Simpson has said taken out of context
What did happen in 1962? This is a big scandal, Not the worse crisis but going that way....... now were going to get to the point where bbc1 will be talking about BBC2, while BBC2 is talking about BBC1, with BBC news talking about both...
I wonder if this is due to it now being an hour long or whether BBC management have played politics and pushed it to when they hope fewer people will be watching.
Perhaps they've just realised the whole thing is in danger of becoming an inward looking 'media village' issue, of diminishing interest outside in the real world.
Most 'ordinary' people seem to be of the opinion that Savile was a bit of of a weirdo, and
quelle surprise
regarding the revelations.
It's bizarre to many that one BBC programme is investigating another !

On the one hand it's about the BBC journalists being able to independently investigate the BBC, but on the other you're seeing the likes of John Simpson crop up as the regular rent-a-quote on this and it seems to be people biting the hand that feeds them.
Good on ITV though for seeing it through because for all the tabloids using this as yet another stick to beat the BBC with, none of them picked up the story for themselves when the BBC quite publicly dropped it before Christmas.
I genuinely think that the BBC has dealt with it the best that they could. They have been open, compliant and willing to help and honest (to as far as they could tell at the time), tackled the issue directly and is prepared to investigate the things that need investigation. I think that current policy, which would have changed significantly from the 70s, is probably sufficient and it will now focus on if anything else occurred then and whether the Newsnight investigation should have been more thorough and ensured that witnesses reported to the Police.
I do believe that several parties have been using this to attack the entire BBC. Censuring inside the BBC is ridiculous in an institution full of inquisitive and investigative journalists. Also, hats off to the DG for the resolve he must show in defending the corporation from these extensive attacks a few weeks into the job.
However the final word must go to the victims of sexual abuse who have come forward.

I just get the feeling that somewhere tonight in the programme SOMEONE will point out this type of thing has been going on for years within the Bee etc... and it was pushed to make sure other stuff did not come out.

Well said - and all investigations into the matter must remember decisions were not made with the benefit of hindsight.
Well, I was willing to give the BBC the benefit of the doubt but they just broadcast a VT clock on BBC One before Panorama started. This is not good enough, they just don't seem to care at all. Shut it down. Abolish the BBC!

The clip of him saying this has just been aired during the Panorama programme, he says it's the worst crisis in
his
50 years working at the BBC, not the worst crisis in the past 50 years of the BBC.

Yes, that's my point.... he said that but the media narrative has turned it into 'the worst in 50 years' which is pointless as it's a totally arbitary date
