Have Newsnight even acknowledged the story over the past few weeks? Apart from anything on the front pages?

Yes, numerous times.

Yes, numerous times.

In terms of actual reports/items on the story? And the programme's own involvement?

Edit: my apologies, from a quick YouTube search, it seems they indeed have.

Seems that this is an escalating BBC scandal with the front pages tomorrow, and a 'damning' Panorama documentary tomorrow night on BBC One at 10.35pm.

An unusual circumstance for a BBC documentary strand to be investigating a BBC news programme.

Not sure the new DG will survive this.

Interesting to see that the time has been changed to 10:35pm, as originally it was pencilled in for earlier in the evening....

Meanwhile, the BBC is to air a special edition of Panorama, looking into the issues surrounding Savile's years of alleged abuse, on BBC One at 20:30 BST on Monday.

I wonder if this is due to it now being an hour long or whether BBC management have played politics and pushed it to when they hope fewer people will be watching.

But you'd think the BBC would want to be seen to be doing the right thing though.

Not really, he is the one with editorial control over Newsnight and was the person who decided not to show it. It makes total sense he goes

I suspect it's not only because it's an hour long but possibly also so it's post-watershed. I'd imagine it will have some graphic details of the abuse so needs to be later like the original ITV programme

It sounds from the Guardian article that he's compromised himself with that blog post he wrote around the time of the Exposure programme as it contradicts some of the key internal revelations since then.

In terms of the scheduling of the Panorama special - there had been media reports that the BBC would drop New Tricks and show the programme at 9pm

Turns out tonight's episode of New Tricks has been pulled anyway, replaced with next week's episode, as it was about child abuse in a care home.

This thing of 'the worst crisis in the BBC for 50 years' is sticking it seems, which is odd as it's totally spurious

Nothing scandalous happened in 1962 and arguably the Dr Kelly/Hutton incident was bigger than this. It seems to be just something John Simpson has said taken out of context
