Has Rylan actually ever hosted it - he must have done I'd have thought, but it's one show I can't really remember him fronting.

I think he's at a stage in his career where being tied to a nightly show would actually hold him back rather than help him.

I don't know, Rylan is all over the place but the trouble is nothing he's doing is really sticking. With a fixed and established nightly gig he could then afford to not say 'Yes' to everything. Thus avoiding Rylan fatigue which does seem to be growing.

Honestly, I know a lot of people won’t agree but I think rylan would suit the roll

Next you’ll be saying he should replace Tom Bradby on News at Ten.

Now, there’s an idea.......

Can't help thinking this is the wrong decision. It's not Have I Got News For You where a different host works because they bring an added dimension to the show each week.

The One Show seems to operate on the same lines as Breakfast. Same presenters, same features, same reporters, same sort of guests. People know what they are getting and are comfortable with it.

Whilst, ok, the male co-host will be familiar to viewers, having someone different each day leads to the potential for an unbalanced programme from one day to the next.

You messed up the link there. Fixed in the quote.

Exactly. Only justification IMO would be if they have made their choice but that person can't start for a few weeks/months.

Yes - Rylan has hosted The One Show on a number of occasions.

Ore Oduba and Sarah Millican must be wondering what happened as there were periods where like Rylan currently, both seemed to never be off atV.

I can't help but feel Matt Baker should have held off his final One Show edition until he was able to be in the studio for a proper send-off with Alex Jones, rather than the way they've done it with him self-isolating at home and Alex talking down the line to him through a fuzzy connection.

I appreciate that it's probably a contractual thing that is specific to him leaving today, but still - given these exceptional circumstances, couldn't the BBC have held off for a while? It's not as if Matt is leaving for another broadcaster immediately, either (as far as we know). It's a goodbye, but it doesn't feel like a proper goodbye, if that makes sense.

Yeah we had a local breakfast show host leave after 6 years and he was gutted as they were presenting from home on his last day.

That would have made more sense - he's still working for the BBC so I can't see any particular issue with getting him on as a guest to plug CountryFile (or whatever new project he has lined up) once things are back to normal and doing the retrospectives then.

Although it filled a chunk of today's show at a time when they might be struggling for content.

Exciting* launch of Watchdog this evening on The One Show

*...yeah it wasn’t that exciting, Matt Allwright shoved to one side on a rather small seat! Followed by a 5 minute film about CV-19 scams and a brief mention of holidays
