Well last time the role came up they went for the left field choice of Jason Manford and it worked out so well they ended up with Matt Baker.

Wouldn't be hugely surprised actually if they just went with Alex Jones hosting solo.

Ore Oduba would be my guess at the replacement...although every time I tune in (granted not that often!) it generally seems to be a mix of guest presenters from the BBC payroll anyway so perhaps they’ll just continue with that

That is a good shout and of the regular guests hosts the best option.

In fairness Jason Manford left due to off-screen issues, not because he was too left field for the programme.

Presumably he'll leave in time for preparation for the Olympics, which will occupy some of his time in the Summer of next year.

I don't understand that, you clearly need at least two presenters because it's on five days a week pretty much all year round, so they can go on holiday at different times and you can have a familiar face on pretty much all the time. I know these days we all know the price of everything and the value of nothing, but The One Show will surely be a double header for all eternity. Alex has plenty of other gigs anyway, and young children.

It was a bit surprising that Jason Manford was chosen ahead of Uncle Matt, I think everyone assumed he'd get the job, but Manford did alright and he didn't leave because he was no good, he left because his private life was all over the papers. But it's a bit like when Richard and Judy left This Morning, Fern Britton and John Leslie had been the regular stand-ins and everyone thought they'd take over, but they didn't and they got Twiggy and Coleen Nolan in. They were a disaster, and eventually Fern and John did take over, but I guess the idea was that it would feel like Richard and Judy were just "on holiday" and the stand-ins were just filling in, so they wanted to get some new faces in.

And similarly Uncle Matt had been the regular stand-in for Adrian Chiles and so presumably they felt that if he took over full-time it would just remind everyone he wasn't Adrian. But it worked out OK in the end.

To avoid deciding on a new host, I also could imagine them having guest hosts at least for a year.

Why when they have guests hosts replacing him at least one evening a week? Perfect opportunity to recruit and establish them... of the perfect replacement hasn't already presented it

I think they should go for Ore or Angela Scanlon.

Guess the poor sod will have to do the Rickshaw Challenge.
