Marking 10 years of The One Show this week with balloons and celebrations.

Of course the show started with the pilot broadcast from the makeshift studio at The Mailbox in Birmingham hosted by Adrian Chiles and Nadia Sawalha which actually started mid-August 2006 so I'm not sure why they're celebrating it now.

I wonder if we could see an Adrian and Christine reunion on the cards sometime this week? Adrian only a few months back made a return as a guest on The One Show after his defect to ITV.

Why now? Well, could have something to do with the Olympics clashing with the start date meaning it wasn't airing on it's actual anniversary.

Inconciderate, I know. You'd have thought the Rio organizing committee and the IOC would have checked with the BBC over this.. Rolling Eyes

They are probably celebrating it now because of the Olympics which was on for the first few weeks of August and Matt Baker has only just made his return tonight taking a few weeks off after commentating on the games.

I do hope we see some of the former hosts back as well as Adrian and Christine especially were a big factor in it's success, as you quite rightly said Adrian returned a few months ago to plug his documentary for BBC and he seems firmly back in the BBC fold with his 5 Live show as well so it would be good to see. Christine is in New York with Frank at present so it may be harder getting her back on the show and Chris Evans may make an appearance as he is another long serving host but probably not with Adrian at least. You could even go as far as to get Nadia Sawalha, Myleene Klass and Jason Manford back this week if you really wanted but they may try and airbrush that last one out and forget it ever happened.

A very nice walk from The One Show studio to All Souls Church for the last One Show of 2016 for some Carols.

Not keen on the ending though! About to end the congregation of carols then cut to an angel shouting out of tune.

Yeah, brilliant, that - as you say, walking straight from the sofa to All Souls.

I really think The One Show at Broadcasting House is a brilliant resource, they get such use out of it and when they have big things there - like all the Olympians returning - it genuinely feels like it's at the centre of the UK. It's great that everyone knows where it is. There have been a couple of occasions where I've been in Central London while it's on air and decided to walk past to see what's going on.

Interesting you say that, as I think one of the reasons behind originally going to Birmingham and coming from an anonymous (ish) backdrop at White City previously was so that viewers didn't actually associate it with being at a BBC centre. That's no criticism at all, just an observation. I think they use the space very very well indeed.

I think it was less to do with association with a BBC centre, more not being associated with London. The current backdrop is still pretty generic (the side of Broadcasting House and a defocused cafe obscured by large internally lit letter elements) and doesn't scream 'London' in the way a studio with a backdrop of St Pauls, Parliament, the Shard, Canary Wharf etc. would.

The show does refer to London, the West End etc. when appropriate during items - but still keeps day-to-day London-centricity pretty low-key.

It's been confirmed on tonight's The One Show that Alex Jones will be returning from maternity leave on Monday. Initially just for two days a week.

I just turned over to The One Show about 10 minutes ago ... Jake Bugg started performing a song only to be rudely interrupted by some shouty muppet ranting about nothing in a way that appeals only to braindead chavs.

Nurse, he's out of bed again!

I didn't much care for it either, but the "shouty muppet" was, I'm fairly sure, there with Jake Bugg's blessing. I know we'd all prefer every One Show to be signed off with a Pam Ayres reading, but the BBC has thing about trying to appeal to a diverse audience.

(Context: indie rock singer/songwriter Jake Bugg's end-of-the-show performance included a rapper, who I've subsequently discovered goes by the unlikely moniker of Tinie Tempah)

And Mr Tempah was on the sofa for an engaging chat earlier in the show. Believe it or not Tinie Tempah is the artist with the most UK No.1s this decade! He's now had as many chart-toppers as Michael Jackson, U2, Kylie, Robbie Williams and Elton-effing-John. (If http://www.mtv.co.uk/tinie-tempah/news/guess-which-artist-has-had-the-most-uk-no1-singles-this-decade are to be believed)

So not an insignificant musical guest for the show.
