For my money I'd put someone a bit older and with some newsy (but not entirely news) experience on the sofa - now that you've got Jason Manford sat next to them.

Lorraine could be a great choice, and I wonder if Fern Britton would be interested?

I'd say Fern has the edge on anyone else (so long as she actually wants to do it). Fern and Jason know each other from that mediocre panel show they did together last year

Interesting article suggesting Lorraine Kelly 'is in the frame'

If the One Show moved to Scotland you could see Lorraine being far more interested. Was there a particular reason for it moving to London after the pilot series?

I suspect his name was Adrian Chiles.

However The One Show in Birmingham is not the same show as The One Show now. The One Show is now the UK's most watched celeb interview show (and not made by an entertainment dept...) and is based on a celebrity on the sofa throughout the show - which means being based in London. You are NOT going to get the same calibre of celeb in Glasgow...

That is true actually - hadn't thought about that.

Hmm, Jason (29), Fern (52) - bit of an age gap.

I'd go for somebody like Claudia Winkleman, I can imagine there might be good chemistry in that partnership.

I think you do need a journalist in the mix as one of the presenting duo for the more serious items the one show covers.

My hope is Penny Smith. My money though, I'm not sure...

... Admins, how about a 'who would you like to see as One Show presenter?' poll?

The tabloids were suggesting Mylene Klass this morning.

Mylene was presenting the show before Christine, ISTR. What was the reason she never returned after her maternity (it was maternity, wasn't it?) leave?

It was maternity leave, Christine replaced her on the sofa and Myleene returned as a reporter, left and returned as a guest presenter when A&C were away.

I don't see that the age difference would be a problem, especially with Fern. Fern Britton is a great idea for a presenter, she's popular, likeable and has exactly the right experience.

However, I can't see them getting a big name for it, especially after the fuss around Bleakly's proposed pay. It's a good opportunity to get someone new (and therefore cheap) onto network TV, just like they did with Christine.

I wonder if Christine will return after the World Cup or whether she'll be off in her garden? It was all very different on her last show with her promoting the relaunch and how exciting it would be!

yeah I just posted on the GMTV thread asking whether anyone knew if she was coming back?

Perhaps she'll be staying in the VW camper van all summer! Laughing

Every press report I've read in the last couple of months has said her contract ends in September - although seems a bit stupid to come back on a relaunched one show for about 6 weeks , especillay with all the press surrounding it.

Personally I suspect she'll be back. It's all about the headline.

"Christine Bleakley to leave BBC for ITV" - not "Christine Bleakley leaves BBC for ITV". It implies she will do something, but hasn't yet. Also, if she's under contract I can't see the Beeb wanting to pay her to sit at home - it might be different if she was going to be hosting a show on ITV that was specific competition, like when Kaplinsky quit the BBC News at Six for Five News at 5:30/ 7.
