i've only seen one of the billboards, in sutton coldfield town centre.
i personally dont like the poster, 'THE' does not look right in the 3 boxes IMO. im sure they could have come up with something a little more imaginative.
THE in the boxes instantly reminds people of the BBC logo - its simple, and with the sun shining on the advert that red really loks great.

Oh does it hell remind people of the BBC logo.
It doesn't remind people of ANYTHING!
To 99.9% of the population they will look at it and think it's just 'THE' in white boxes. Very very few will make the link between white box and BBC logo. Most people would probably screw up their faces and look at you rather oddly if you told them it was a play on the BBC One logo.
Most will probably think it's another mobile phone shop, internet venture or electrical store.

then again, i do believe that is the point of the posters.
They are deliberatly meaning less, to make people look and say, 'hey what the hell is that all about' and then from next week, when people see the trailers for the new look BBC One on tv, they will begin to understand.
They featured semi-naked men walking along a beach and a little 'b2' logo appeared and the advert finished.
It went on for months. And months. And months.
The nation was on edge.
Imagine the confusion when it was announced that it was merely 'Barclays 2'.
There is nothing significant about to happen to BBC One from a programming perspective, which is, let's face it, why most people watch it.
I just don't think that the introduction of new presentation deserves thousands, if not millions, of pounds to be spent on advertising. If people want to watch BBC1 they will watch it because it has a programme they are interested in viewing, no amount of posters, plastic cups and confusing advertising campaigns is going to change that.

Yep, I remember when I was a kid walking down the street seeing teasers we'd try to guess what they're for. All will be revealed after, probably on Thursday, there will be people on ladders up against those billboards and everyone will see that it was for BBC ONE.
It's supposed to make people think and wonder. A few people would notice the simularity to the BBC logo, but most people won't. The slogan 'The One' hasn't yet been launched on the public. When it is people across the country will remember those big adverts they saw and start to wonder.. erm.. why the BBC spent their licence fee money on them.. hehe.. But it'll get people thinking about the channel, anyway, and the fresh look about the channel.
Is 'The ONE' to be integrated into the presentation in some way, or is it simply an advertising gimmick?
If they take Australia's Channel 9 as their role model, they'll integrate 'The ONE' into their ident in some way. Channel 9 have been using the 'Still The One' slogan for ages, obviously The Beeb is trying it out for itself.
I'm guessing, but I recon the idents will be something like the evil Carlton ones of 1997.
Things like 'Turn On' and then a morphing of those words into BBC One.
It'll be crap whatever it is, BBC One idents usually are.
I noticed today, that the general public may even less think it is an advert for BBC ONE
In the last week, there is a new advertising poster campaign for 'The Post Office' advertising that we all only have ONE letterbox
And it uses the exact same red background!
People will then think the BBC's adverts are for the Post Office
---
Wouldn't it have been more sensible to advertise some actual programmes instead of just the channel itself, most people (except people on this forum) don't watch BBC ONE just because it is BBC ONE
Well today I saw 2 of these billboards for the first time, look very good if you ask me. They sure do stand out! And the BBC want people to be confused by it, you'll see - they'll gradually reveal more like they did with the bugs. Very clever.
