Nope not jokes, just descriptions that Ricky 'Gervais' isnt as big or isnt as popular as the BBC or indeed his fans think he is.

So now he's, "not as popular as his fans think he is"? Err, anyone?

Look my little ray of sunshine, its quite clear that you don't enjoy his work. Shall we leave it there? I only say this because your argument is now spiraling into an embarrassment of cringes Ricky himself would be proud of.

I think there are some people out there who simply will not 'get' The Office. These sorts of people can typically be found laughing their heads off at the likes of "My Family" or "Heartbeat" on a weekend evening, or people who are naturally entertained by and enjoy the predictability of Will and Grace or Friends.

... it's just brilliant, and if you don't get it, then frankly I think there's something wrong with you: you just don't understand human contact.

Well, I think My Family is pretty good, but I wouldn't say I would laugh at Heartbeat. And I don't watch Will and Grace or Friends because they don't really appeal that much.

I'm only expressing my opinion about The Office...probably if I did work in an office (which I don't), I would get the idea more...but it still seems a very poor programme to me. That's what I think anyway.

I did laugh slightly when he was poking fun at that woman's cleavage in the 2nd episode the other day before I turned over...but that was about it.

But don't you REALLY think that "The Office" is hyped up way too much? I mean...seriously...??? It can't really be classed as a Classic Comedy can it now?? In the same league as Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers??? I don't think it will be repeated in 10 years time or so, like Fawlty Towers is, or Some Mother's Do Ave Them?? They WERE Classic Comedys. Laughing

The bottom line is that The Office appeals to a very small minority of the people in Britain and it would be interesting to see the ratings for the Xmas specials the other day. Everybody I have spoken to has not been the slightest amused by The Office...so I am not the only one with my reservations about the programme.

Anyway...that is what I THINK....that's all.

That says a lot more about your circle of friends than it says about The Office.

To be honest, I think the reason that a lot of people here don't like The Office is simply because its humour is designed to appeal to people quite a bit older than the average TV Forum member.

I for one think it will come to be seen as one of the classics, like Fawlty Towers, in time.

When I say "Everyone"...I mean my family, my mates down the pub and work colleagues - so that's quite a big cross section there!

Have you seen Little Britain on BBC3? I think that's very good as well.

Shame that Tim's actor in The Office went into that appalling DIY shop sitcom on ITV.

Have to agree with you on both points. Have you seen Monkey Dust on BBC3? A bt more variable than Little Britain, but brilliant if you get into it (I think ((c) Banksey 2003)).

Not at all - its just as silly saying that anyone who doesnt like the Office must be thick - as has already been said by one 'regular poster' who obviously thinks that he is intellectual.
