In fact bloodmakesnoise, why not stick a poll up there at the top of page and then we will be able to see whether The Office is pants or classic TV!

The Office:-

Pants - 99%
Classic TV - 1%

That'll probably be the result I guess...

LOL!

Rolling Eyes And the reason there was no audience during the recording of the show, was because eveyone knows how bad it actually is! They didn't want to waste a good few hours of their life listening to a collection of half-wits parading on the stage trying to create some "comedy drama", when they could be doing something much more memorable.

Why should there be audience in a show whether it was real or canned. Would it make the show any different. Maybe you need a laughter track in the background so that it makes you know when to laugh or not.

Look, point is that everyone has different tastes. Some like the Office, some don't. You seem to have an element of "get on my high horse" to it all. Personally, the first one of the specials didn't do much for me but the second one was brilliant.

I thought both were brilliant but, yes, the second one had the edge over the first.

It's funny because it's much more observational and low-key than many other series. And to appreciate the Christmas specials you really needed to have watched both series. The specials were really more about tying up the stories, because what with Brent not being the boss any more the lynchpin of a lot of the comedy wasn't present in quite the same way.

But of course it's a personal matter - I love this, The Royle Family and Phoenix Nights, but Coupling I only found mildly diverting and TLC, which someone else mentioned a couple of pages back, I thought was all over the place, pedestrian and quite frankly pretty poor.

Ricky Gervais is a funny man, although there are elements of David Brent about him, obviously. You should listen to his show on Xfm in London, it's very good.

Ed,
I think our comedy tastes are very similar. Have you seen Little Britain on BBC3? I think that's very good as well.

Shame that Tim's actor in The Office went into that appalling DIY shop sitcom on ITV.

And good on them I say!

I know exactly what I am talking about and I know a duff programme when I see one! Exclamation

Oh come off it! You are making up the most ludicrous statements I have ever heard, who made you Judge, Jury and Executioner? What, you have some all-seeing all knowing ability to know what people like/don't like, and that on your judgement, programmes should be sucessful/not sucessful? My God you're almost as bad as David Brent!

The Office was a documentary filmed in an office setting. Were you expecting a small crowd of people following the camera around laughing and cheering?

I really enjoyed the second special. Great comedy moments and I was even moved to tears when dawn opened the oil paints present and came back for tim. I also thought it was lovely how david seemed to find a natural 'click' with his new lady.

Moral of the story : there's hope of happiness for all of us ? .......

I thought the implication with David's laydee was that she only liked him because she hadn't seen the programme, and there was a hint she might go off him as soon as she got to know him or heard about The Office. Just a thought Smile

JB,
I hadn't seen it that way. I like to think they had a natural 'click'.

Briiliant Brilliant Brillant!! 'The Office', is fantastic telly, the best comedy there is. The point of 'The Office' its realism, and thats great, it is very refreshing comedy too, If you have worked in an office enviroment before you will instantly recognise the show, thats fine if you dont like it, but think how unique the show is in comedy circles. All these,US so -called comedies, Freinds, Ally whatever her name, Fraiser they cant hold a candle to 'The Office'. More to the point, what a dissapointment 'Only Fools and Horses' was this year.

I've never quite understood what was funny about The Office. It may be that
only a certain audience would 'get it' so I wont comment on it either way.

I am sure there are many people who find Bottom disgusting and
crude, where as I almost p*ss myself watching it, and have
even been to the latest Stage Show.

Indeed. While some may find a show like "Friends" absolutely hilarious, and also find "Frasier" a bit on the
dull side, I personally find "Friends" extremely overrated, and most episodes of "Frasier" extremely funny.

I watched the two 'The Office' specials...

It has been the first time I had seen the prog and I thought it was absolutely great...

Comedy on a sort of unobvious, deeper level.

I totally agree, it shows the distance between our cultures.(or your culture, i am part French!) Sorry for any offence to American's purely my OWN opinion. I think when it comes to comedy, the UK tops the tree.
