I've worked in many offices and if you act like any of that in them, you would either get sacked, or more likely, moved.

Well, David Brent did get sacked.

Perhaps, but you would have thought that The Office, being more 'true to life' would be more accessible. Its just the tool of some ridiculously inflated ego of a nobody (aka Gervais).

I think you're confusing the characters he played on the 11 o clock show (and on chat shows/ comedy awards etc) and The Office with Ricky Gervais himself.

Fantastic TV, cant wait for the DvD of theses epidoes, expect a lot of extras on that.

A Bit dissapointed with X-Mas TV this year, 'The Office' was the only show that lived up to my expectations.

The Office= the biggest load of overated pants ever. I've watched several episodes, tried to get it, but I just can't. I just don't find it funny.

I don't find it funny either. I sat through the first shows of series 1 and thought I was watching a real, serious documentary! I couldn't understand why my parents were laughing so much at it....... leaves me cold.....

Yeah...utter tripe!!! That's all I have to say about it. I watched the first 10 mins of Saturday's programme and it was TRULY awful...not a single laugh about it. not even the audience was laughing!!!! Laughing I TOO, have watched several repeat episodes on BBC2 and not once did I laugh at all. It didn't even make me snigger and I can't see why Ricky Gervais is a legend at all. All the programmes he has been on, he seems to think he is SO clever and SO funny...WHEN IN FACT, HE IS A COMPLETE PLONKER and isn't funny at all.

You may say it is a "comedy drama" but we all know that "comedy drama" stands for "this programme isn't very funny but we'll put it on and hype it up a bit and stick it on BBC2 and it'll do quite well". Rolling Eyes

Ricky Gervais should go and think about how funny he actually is and then he may realise that he is actually nothing worth talking about. Twisted Evil

That is all.

Martin Freeman (Tim)'s straight face is still funny though.

Juicy Joe,

You just don't get it - that's fine.
By the way, there is no audience soundtrack so you'll never hear any laughter.

I've never quite understood what was funny about The Office. It may be that only a certain audience would 'get it' so I wont comment on it either way.

I am sure there are many people who find Bottom disgusting and crude, where as I almost p*ss myself watching it, and have even been to the latest Stage Show.

Martin,
that just shows how personal comedy is;
I love the Office but Bottom does nothing for me at all.

No audience, no reason why you should be hearing laughter.

You are not meant to be laughing, you are meant to be wondering why in God's name is this person allowed to live, and why he can't see that he is an ar*ehole most of the time.

There is little "direct" comedy about this programme. And by "direct" I mean instances where someone falls over, or ends up in an embaressing situation , or a moose falls on their head (Fawlty Towers).
This is comedy because we laugh nervously at the personality of the boss onscreen bacause he magnifies certain aspects of our bosses and our working atmospheres, this is a comedy where you cringe at the instances which would humiliate a normal person but just wash over David because he doesn't know how to give up.

You are mixing up fiction and reality, Ricky Gervais is the ACTOR who plays David Brent THE CHARACTER.

I AM NOT mixing up fiction and reality at all! I meant that I have seen Ricky Gervais on other programmes, such as Des O'Connor tonight, and he was nothing to laugh about on there either! Even when he is being himself!

Certainly, his stand up video was NOT on my Xmas list this year!!! Can't imagine how that would be!

Rolling Eyes And the reason there was no audience during the recording of the show, was because eveyone knows how bad it actually is! They didn't want to waste a good few hours of their life listening to a collection of half-wits parading on the stage trying to create some "comedy drama", when they could be doing something much more memorable.

And good on them I say!

I know exactly what I am talking about and I know a duff programme when I see one! Exclamation

In fact bloodmakesnoise, why not stick a poll up there at the top of page and then we will be able to see whether The Office is pants or classic TV!

The Office:-

Pants - 99%
Classic TV - 1%

That'll probably be the result I guess...
