I wonder if last night's Late Late Toy Show broke any records, it was certainly a Twitter hit with the hashtag #toyshow trending worldwide in second while the show was on. Probably hit the million mark at least. (1 million viewers in Ireland could mean 10 million in UK rating money)

It would be more than 10 million UK-wise. Irelands population is around 4million, ours is around 60 million, so 1 million Irish viewers would equate to about 15 million UK viewers. Which is good, but not X Factor / Britains Got Talent Finale stuff. (20million?)

Six-One tonight presented double-headed by Bryan Dobson and Aengus MacGrianna . Unusual for an RTÉ bulitten to be male double-headed, but these are not usual times! Liklihood is that MacGrianna was the scheduled newsreader and Dobson was drafted in for the major breaking news which was expected to break (the IMF/EU bailout) during the programme. MacGrianna disappeared after the first fifteen minutes or so of the bulitten and the remainder of the show was anchored solo by Dobson. The programme ended up running until 7:30pm and the normal weekend sports section was reduced to a two minute summary. Appropiately so, the bulitten was branded "RTÉ News:Six One" rather than "RTÉ News and Sport" which normally the case at weekend.

The Week in Politics will be live tonight instead of pre-recorded as it usually is.

TV3 has unveiled its election coverage plan for Vote 2011. The station promises to deliver what its viewers want – an independent and innovative approach to what will be an historic event.

Plans are at an advanced stage to hold a debate between the three main party leaders, hosted by Vincent Browne. TV3 has put together an election team headed by Vincent Browne, political editor Ursula Halligan, Midweek presenter and Irish Times columnist Sarah Carey and Trinity College economist Constantin Gurdgiev.

The Tonight with Vincent Browne programme will be extended Monday -Thursday to 12.30am and there will be an additional one-hour programme each Friday once the campaign is under way.

There will also be additional special programmes each Thursday during the campaign where Vincent Browne will interview party leaders one-to-one.

The News at 5.30 team will be headed by anchors Alan Cantwell and Elaine Crowley, with Alan presenting the Election Centre coverage.

TV3’s News at 5.30 will be a hub for reports from the campaign trail from a dedicated team of reporters and their branded election battle cars. Brian O’Donovan will be following Micheál Martin, Jerome Hughes will be following Enda Kenny, Stephen Murphy will be following Eamon Gilmore and Aisling Ní Choisdealbha will be reporting on the other party leaders.

Our correspondents will bring first reports from the campaign trail, both in programming and online, with additional footage, blogging and tweeting on our website.

As well as interactivity with our news teams, viewers will get an opportunity to have their say with an on-the-road Peoplecam that will be a feature on our website Election Centre www.tv3.ie/vote2011.

The election features across the schedule in Ireland AM, Midday, the flagship News at 5.30, Tonight with Vincent Browne and Midweek as well as the other special election programmes.

On Results Day, there will be afternoon analysis hosted by Vincent Browne, a 5.30 election special and a Tonight with Vincent Browne special.

TV3 has campaigned for an end to the broadcasting moratorium so that viewers can continue to get independent up to date coverage right up to election day.

TV3’s election launch coincides with an extensive advertising campaign this weekend.

As Ireland’s national independent television broadcaster, TV3’s election promise is to be fair and balanced to all parties and candidates throughout the campaign.

TV3’s Director of Election Coverage, Bob Hughes, said: “This will be our biggest Election Campaign coverage in the station’s 13-year history. Our viewers will get all they need to know about Vote 2011 first thing in the morning, first thing in the evening and last thing at night. Our election promise is for independent, balanced and informative coverage right across our programming schedule but it’s also our aim to inform and entertain with a fresh innovative approach that embraces all the latest trends in new media journalism.”

RTÉ have rolled out a new animated endcap over the last few weeks, same general layout as the last but with a blue-ish background and the RTÉ logo rotates into place. RTÉ Cork has also lost its own endcap/ident and uses the standard RTÉ endcap with "Cork" written underneath.

Wonder will we get new RTÉ One idents this year - the current ones (which IMO are quite boring) have now lasted longer than any RTÉ One ident since the first RTÉ1 ident from the early 1980s.

RTÉ refreshed RTÉ Two in September 2009 after 5 years of the green room idents
The Den re-branded in September 2010 after 5 years of the windows idents
It would make sense for RTÉ One to refresh this year after 5 years of the activity idents, So I would expect a new look in September.

On last nights Tonight program there was a funny skit of Vincent Browne which shows some great shots of Studio one complete with Blue screen panels. I visited the studio last autumn and have included some points in the description of the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ-zYEXXA4o

Yes - though it doesn't suggest they will be in HD in case people get a bit revved up!

(Just that they are using a more efficient transmission system which only Freeview HD receivers will receive)
