Some transmission gremlins affected TG4 last night; their trailers/programme holding stings refused to play. Also thought there were but it just turned out to be an episode of "Cold Case".
I've also noticed the sound cutting out about two seconds in to some trailers during Cúla4.
Having said that, I've been very impressed by the standard of TG4 presentation; a lot of the trails I've seen in the past week or so have impressed in their editing and form (there was a wonderful one for the edition of "Fíorsceal" about the chocolate trade), and live up to the reputation they have in producing award-winning promotions. Even more incredible it's all done on a minimal budget. A real hive of creative talent they have at Baile na hAbhann.

Today at around 2.30pm TV3 went into a black screen, then into a technical difficulty's slide for 5mins, for the next half hour programmes aired without sound and the 4:3 show was stretched into 16:9. You would think they would have noticed there was no sound, no apology's at the end of the show or on the website. After the show it went straight into the dog ident with volume and shows continue.

This usually doesn't happen maybe a bit of a fade but not that bad that it cuts before the animation was finished.
Tonight TV3 has began airing a UK election break bumper with the union jack and fireworks fading in behind the 3 logo.

There's a fader trigger-happy transmission director on RTÉ ONE this evening; they faded out the RTÉ Cork ident at the end of Nationwide, and the trail for the Late, Late just now, before the animation had resolved. Are these common occurances?

Further question about The Late Late Show: Is it in a different studio this year? The whole set looks very cramped and claustrophobic, Ryan's band seem to be more or less leaning against the set.
I have to say, I like the RTÉ TWO idents and most of the presentation package, like the previous ident set they are quirky mini-narratives, and I like the idea of the Venus flytrap and the pug dog double act. Infinitely better than the tired, hackneyed Red Bee stuff still doing the rounds on RTÉ ONE. The only gripe I have is with the serif font; while it matches the "blinds" effect on end boards, it doesn't really match the feel of the channel.

No, it still comes from Studio 4. There simply is no other option for the show. There are larger sound stages somewhere out the back but they're not used for regular programming (esp. live programmes anyway) as far as I know. I agree that the band does look cramped, but I do actually think this new set overall looks much more spacious than previous incarnations. Different strokes I suppose!
Yes RTÉ TWO's look is very original indeed. I preferred the previous presentation package but the new ones are equally if not more abstract so I suppose the originality is still there but I hoped they'd do something a bit more mainstream and not quite as weird. I can't see them lasting 5 years like the old, primarily because they're the same green colour again, so they'll tire quickly.
RTÉ ONE could do with a refresh, it feels like those idents are just stagnant now and they just don't cut it any more. I'd love to see them introduce a package reminiscent of the early 2000's - so very classy and elegant whilst still being fresh with a simple but powerful musical theme - the perfect look and sound for a state broadcaster's flagship channel. BBC One has a "nice" package at the moment, but to me its a bit childish or something, and it doesn't lend itself to the image of a stately world-class broadcaster like it should.
Just my 2c!

Doubtful, the Xfactor didn't get one last year.
