Does anyone else remember an action/adventure gameshow shown on ITV in 1989 called Interceptor? It was produced by Chatsworth Television who also were responsible for Treasure Hunt and the Crystal Maze. Unfortunately Interceptor only got the one series - something to do with the demise of Thames TV I think. It starred Annabel Croft as the presenter and Sean O'Kane as the Interceptor.

It featured a team of 2 people (a male wearing blue and a female wearing yellow) who were blindfolded and flown by helicopter to 2 separate locations. Each contestant had a backpack, one was empty and the other contained the £1,000 prize money. No-one knew who was carrying the money. When both contestants arrived at their start positions the blindfolds were removed and the clock was started. The contestants had to describe their location to Annabel Croft (she had the only map) to try to help her work out where they were. The object was for the contestants to meet up within the 40 minute time limit and win the prize money through Annabel talking to them over their walkie-talkies. Easy? Nope. The packs were locked and the contestants had to find the key to the other's pack. Oh and there was The Interceptor. He flies around in his black helicopter (G-MEAN). He knows the contestants' start positions and he will attempt to seal their packs shut by remote control. The packs had remote sensors on them, which the Interceptor tried to zap with his zapper. If he zapped it, the pack could not be opened. The contestant had no way of telling if the Interceptor had zapped them or not. He also had dirty tricks up his sleeve, such as getting out of his helicopter and chasing one contestant on foot whilst sending the pilot back up in the air to hover over the other contestant to scare them, and make the contestant who was being chased think they were safe! If the contestants met up with the keys within the time limit they were then allowed to try the keys in the other's pack. If the pack with the money in opened, then they won. If not, or if the time ran out, they lost. On one show the both contestants met up within the time limit but found that the empty pack opened and the pack with the money in had been locked by the Interceptor! There was some hilarious dialogue between the Interceptor and his pilot Mikie. Check out Interceptor's Lair which is a fantastic website dedicated to the programme. It's class!!!
They really should bring this back, it was Treasure Hunt with a twist. That Interceptor guy was cool in his long black leather coat, but not a nice man. And the theme tune was awesome.

Hi
I actually found an edition of Interceptor on Video the other day.I originally taped them all, 1 ep on a 60 min tape, but wiped them a couple of years later! The one I still have was on a longer tape with other things on it, sadly the first 5 mins or so are missing. It was great to see it again. I wish they had made more!
