You know it launched yesterday, right?
It was pretty good, although it did feature Lulu - whose voice goes into a rather west-coast guttural drawl when she gets back to Scotland. Nonetheless I really enjoyed it. Kaye and Stephen were good. Ian Rankin was the other guest.
They had chef Andrew Kitchin in the, er.. kitchen making some asparagus. "Its only in season for six weeks... did I mention that?" Yep - five or six times.
But - and the reason for bringing it up - was that they kept referring to this segment as "live", when it clearly wasn't. Before they went to the break they showed the finished plate of asparagus and poached egg (erm, ok then), but you could see Chef Kitchin standing behind the plate gesturing, as if speaking.
Sure as poached eggs are poached eggs, the end of the cooking segment showed the very same camera shot, with Kitchin in the background talking away.
Why then did Kaye say, "I can't believe I'm going to eat a runny egg live on camera"?
Anyhoo, minor *cheated moment* aside, I thought it was great. Definitely fills the void of Richard & Judy in that hour, especially as one gets a little fed up of Weakest Link on the Beeb.
I'll be tuning in again tonight.

Very slippery slope describing something as live when it isn't... Either you're honest with your audience or you're not. There are no grey areas - as many have learned recently.
(Does anyone remember that when Liquid News went from being live on BBC Three to as-live and shown at midnight, they had a "NOT LIVE" bug for their down-the-line stuff?)

Kitchin's restaurant is in Leith (Edinburgh) about 500 years from where I'm sat right now. It didn't make sense to me why they wouldn't just explain that he is probably up to his eyes in prep work between 5 and 6pm, and had come in early.
The rest was clearly live though - which means they must record the STV News "coming up after the break" piece, as its unlikely they would have time to swing the cameras round during the 20 seconds of end credits.

No I'm referring to John sitting at the desk at the break right before the news starts.

Oopsie. Even more obvious today, with Kitchin back in the kitchen. He was cutting and filleting a piece of mackerel. Lots of close-ups of this procedure - with his rather large wristwatch in shot the whole time. And the time on his watch? 12:35pm.
