It's just not got the same feel it did when they recorded it at the NIA.

Plus, with one exception, the new Gladiators are pathetic.

To top it all off the new theme tune is awful too. Its not even a tune. More like someones raided a sound fx library.

The voice of John Sachs would have helped, but we have to put with Allan Parry now and only get John on the Nintendo Wii sponsorship stings.

I didn't really watch much of Gladiators, so cant really comment that much, but what's really getting me is the overt advertising for their second rate Shane Ritchie vehicle, not limited to an intrusive animated **** appearing during return from breaks.

I've been told it's a great format, based around Are You Smarter Then but with singing.

Kirsty was surpisingly comparable to Ulrika and Wrighty just didn't seem arsed. The "Big-O" clearly wants to be the new Wolf and that's painful to watch.

The first Duel was utter balls - they were like 5 year olds hitting each other. The Eliminator is debabale, too many changes. And whoever replaced John Sachs is utter terrible. As they introduced each game, I was expecting that big booming voice to shot "DUEL" or "PYRAMID"... and there came some whiny voice that made me feel sad. Literally...

And I miss the old music so much. The "medieval" feel (or whatever era it is) to the music is rather depressing. They should've left it to ITV to bring it back.

This new series is f*cking sh*t.

I couldn't agree more. As with most other people here I was looking forward to seeing the return of Gladiators so much over the last few months only to given this piece of 'dung'. The set is all nice and that but is ruined the by 'water & fire' elements which are completely useless and only served as a publicity stunt. The games were pathetic cheap copies of the originals. The atmospere is lost but I don't really know why. And as for the eliminator, well, I DO NOT GET IT. Sky One are so cheap that they couldn't aford the 'paper' at the end of the Eliminator so they ordered a reusable wall made out of foam bricks! The is the worst television series revival since Mr & Mrs come back earlier this year. The Gladiators are also pathetic. And as for the 'Contendors' they are WIMPY as one of the so-called Gladiators said. The voiceover is terrible and overly-scripted, theme music terrible, animations cheap & terrible. The only thing good about the revival is John Anderson and they over use him to much to (how many times did he say "...READY!" during the programe (including breaks!)). I rate this programe -10/10.

I'd like to say that my comments will be based on a rose tinted view of the 90's show, but after watching a couple of those this afternoon on Challenge the 90's is so much better.

The main difference is that the 90's version was camp and cheesy, and that's how it was intended, they all had over the top names, and wore lycra with great cheesy music.
Where as this 'ALL NEW' Gladiators has come back making everything so important, and grand.
The music used to try and create tension was awful as it did nothing where the old music used to add an extra dimension to each game.

I know that it most probably used to take all day to film the 90's gladiators, but the way in which all games are layed out all of the time is horrible and created a cramped atmosphere, so much so that the games areas have had to be turned into the new eliminator as there's no where for an eliminator set to go.

On the plus side, the graphics are welcome, the G isn't too disimilar, and its used in an effective way through the programme with the other graphics.

The games (with the exception of the eliminator & the water element) seem to have stayed pretty true to the original which is always a good thing.

Back to the negative now...
The Gladiators seem to have too much ego about them. You could understand if it was the 5th series or something, but it was episode 1. They also seem very miserable, the only miserable ones of the original glads that I can remember were Shadow and Wolf (but Wolf was playing it up) where as the big 'O' looked like the sort of person who roams the streets on a Saturday night just causing trouble because he's got the muscles to do so.

The editing seemed to be everywhere, making links very tight.
Though the programme dragged out 30 minutes worth to the 45 minute programme (Obviously not counting adverts).
Why they introduced all of the glads all the time was stupid, surely the game is about the contestants, the statistics is all we need to know about the glads really.
The sob story made all of us think 'Oh My God' aswell. All we needed to know is that she's in the RAF at the moment, where she's from, and what does she want to achieve.
It just didn't seem to move quick enough.

The lack of John Sachs was indeed a mistake, they bought John Anderson back, but nothing else.

I think I would have prefered to bribe Michael Grade into paying Nigel Lithgoe a lot of money to come back to the UK and remake the original.

As I said, it's not a problem with the graphics as they've tried to bring it up to date, though the music is copying everything else that seems to have gone in the same way since Millionaire first appeared on our screens. I think my problem is more the way that they have done it, not really thinking about the past which is ok if it were 30 odd years ago and a channel didn't repeat them every weekend, but as so many people are still fond of the 90's version this has been a big disapointment.

Saying that though I did enjoy Don't Forget The Lyrics, although they dragged out the tension on that a bit too much, especially for the early questions.

I believe Sky One shot themselves in the foot when they commissioned it, for the single reason it would be incredibly hard for them to outdo the original. It was axed by ITV for a reason, and considering this is worse than the provisional format, I think it's a bleak forecast.

I am glad I didn't watch it.

The reason being ITV was shuffling it about too much and viewers got confused and stopped watching. That's Ulrika's theory anyway.

I'm looking forward to this Legends special, which sees the likes of Hunter and Sarracen back, but it's often shown and reported that Wolf wants to come back, and at the moment, they aren't letting him. HE'S THE MOST POPULAR ONE!!!
