I'm not a great fan of recycling old programmes. I enjoyed it first time round but i'm not getting ecstatic about its return. Will probably appeal to todays youngsters.
Quite like the idea of Ian Wright, Wright, Wright presenting it though.

At least it's not "Celebrity Gladiators". Rolling Eyes 90's nostalgia certainly seems to be in full swing now doesn't it? Makes me feel old. Media Guardian makes a good point asking whether this is a sign that the era of "mean TV" is finally edging towards its welcome end. It's not necasery or a step forward for TV but I'd rather be transported back to a time when Realty TV was seeing people in spangly leotards trying to knock each other off podiums with giant sticks then 'Big Brother' trying to out-nasty itself every year.

Find it strange how now it's get put in the bracket of "reality TV" - it seems now any programme featuring a person is "reality TV".

Back in the 90's it was considered nothing more than good old fashioned entertainment.

Only watched it occassionally in the 90's really - we were more of a Generation Game / Noels House Party house than Gladiators / Blind Date.

So now ITV have missed out, what's the betting they try to capitilise on Dancing on Ice's popularity and bring back Ice Warriors! Wink

Rolling Eyes

Rolling Eyes - mainly cos it is coming back and won't be half as good as it used to be, and...

Rolling Eyes - cos it is on Sky 1, so noone will be able to watch it anyway.

Odd isn't it? Way back when, when ordinary members of the public done tv shows it was classed as a gameshow or light entertainment .nowadays anything that has joe bloggs innit now seems to be classed as as reality tv.
Thanks BB for lowering the tone of television viewing and participation.

Similar to miss hellfire, I sort of worry that this could seem a bit Fear Factor-style rather then traditional Gladiators.

Anyone know if it will be filmed in Birmingham again like the original series?

I do know that it will be more like the return of the American Gladiators than the old British Series... fire and water will feature heavily.

If they can bring back Gladiators, then they can bring back The Crystal Maze and show it on ITV/Channel4 ! Surely? Confused:

Biggest set ever, you say? Hmm, biggest set before this would be The Crystal Maze so maybe those still wanting their Crystal Meth, sorry, Maze fix may yet get it. Wouldn't bet on Richard O'Brien reprising his role but who knows.

When it was on, I found Gladiators intensely boring. It seemed to me like boring people, who would irritate me immediately if I met them, running around a jazzed up children's playground. Very tiresome, very stale, and very pointless.

Even with Ian Wright, a rather excellent presenter, hosting, I simply don't see how this version will be any better. I would like to see a return for The Crystal Maze though, even though Richard O'Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole would be hard acts to follow.
