The Gladiators Thread

Yep, it's coming back, sadly only on Sky One...

Just when you thought TV had struck rock-bottom.

American Gladiators is back, or coming back, in the US as well...

And they've started syndicating Gladiators 2000 (the kids version from the 90s) hosted by Ryan Seacrest - or are about to.

Was a huge fan of Gladiators in the day. I'm not a happy bunny its gone to Sky as its another programme I won't see being with Virgin.

Ho hum.

Hopefully they'll repeat it on Sky Three on Freeview (although I have Sky in the living room)

I cringed when it used to be on and I cringe at the thought of it returning now. No doubt I'll cringe when it comes back on our screens. Except I won't because I don't have Sky One. Which is good. No cringing required.

Oh how original.

I liked Gladiators when it was originally on, but it's been DONE. Move on and do something new ffs. Gladiators 'Now and Then' on UKTV Gold might have been better

Oh dear.

HORAY! This is one of my all-time favourite program but I really am p***** off that it will be on sky because I am almost certain I'll miss it. However they might send it to ITV in syndicate like they do with some other sky programs. I did though always feel it was part of the british culture so here are the things theyu should and shouldn't do:

Do
1. Keep that strange triangle G logo and the red 3 stand studio
2. Change the games more often and make them less showy
3. Try to find the original voiceover or a artist who sounds like him to do the voiceover again.
4. Find some gladiators with personalities like the golden oldies
5. Must keep the gladiator clasic games - wall, hang tough and duel
6. Oh and most importantly keep the old music

Don't
1. F*** it up like most of their other revivals

Anyway I can't wait!

Considering it's back in the USA and Australia it was only a matter of time before it returned here. I thought it would have ended up on ITV1 though, but Sky One seems a suitable home - though don't think it would work for Sky on Saturday nights - Sundays would be more likely surely.

At least the other John (Anderson, the Scottish ref) is fairly likely to return, it would seem.

I remember back in the 90s, Gladiators was fairly popular in my household - I particularly remember from one series, the short black guy called Sam - who, in the lead-up stages to reaching the Final, kept finishing the Eliminator so close to his competitor that they always had to go to the slow-mo Replay, in order to see who broke through the paper first - and he'd always just manage to grab it.

I don't know exactly how badly he went out in the Final but ISTR he lost out to Paul (Fielding?), a policeman.
