Apparently parents are "outraged" over the children's section being moved closer to the adult channels.

It's funny that they decided to spend time tweeting away and selling the newspapers stories about it but apparently can't take the time to adjust TV settings and actually block the channels.
Foolish.

It's a bit of a non story and a cheap aim at the BBC, even though it's not their fault. It's a type of story I'd expect to read from The S*n or the Fail, not the Independent.

Anyway nothing to see quite literally and move on.

Indy has become a full on right-wing attack dog lately.

The Independent has gone seriously downhill since it went online only, it's very sad. Not even in terms of it becoming right-wing or left-wing or whatever, but in terms of the quality of writing and the noted increase in clickbait headlines and stories.

The Saudis have a share in the company, yet Lebedev is still the main shareholder. When the Saudi investors came on board, they signed a deal with Two Beards to ensure impartial journalism remains.

The Times has an independent board, but they largely go along with what Murdoch wants. This is a suggestion I made with regards to 21st Century Fox taking over Sky with regards to Sky News.

Slightly interesting that -- looking at the main six multiplexes for the moment -- we're starting to see a lot of vacant capacity becoming available again. Admittedly, it may only be temporary, but I don't there's been as much "downtime" as we have now for quite a few years, especially with the recent trend for EPG squatting.

COM4 - 2 vacant hours/day
COM5 - 13 hours
COM6 - 21 hours

What are the hours on Com6? Pointless if evenings are unavailable

The whole former BT Showcase SD (ex-Ch 59) slot is available , i.e from 1200 through 0000, plus another five hours to 0500.

There's also room for 1x SD slot on PSB3 (DVB-T2). The multiplex maxes out at around 37.5 Mbps, meaning there's always around 2Mbps if not more dormant, enough for a MPEG4/AVC videostream. The BBC had wanted to broadcast BBC One+1 using this spare capacity, before the plans were shot down.

Does anyone know whether Digital UK’s LCN consultationhas been brought into effect yet?

Notably under minimum broadcast hours it states...
"In order to be allocated or retain an LCN, channels must broadcast a minimum of two hours per day or 14 hours per week of audio-visual content via DTT."
...though it does have the exceptions of...
Quote:
* this rule does not apply to channels in the Adult genre, the Streamed services genre, the Text genre or the Radio genre; and
* channels which were broadcasting on the DTT platform for less than 14 hours per week prior to [the date on which this rule change comes into effect] must comply with this rule by [date two years after this rule comes into effect] or (if later) upon the expiry of their current carriage agreement with a multiplex operator.

A minimum 2 hours a day / 14 per week still is very low in my opinion. Personally I'd rather see it increased to nearer 5 hours a day / 35 per week, to weed out many of these channels and arguably strength Freeview's content. I can't help suspect some channels only have minimal broadcasting just to keep their LCN for future use.

Perhaps it should be a minimum number of hours within a certain time, so you can't get away with your minimum hours being 3am-5am.

One slot is 12 noon to 5 am, so attractive. The rest are odd hours sandwiched in between other streams.
