I have some sympathies for QVC. They after all kept going through thick and thin since taking over Shop in 2002. That alone justifies their EPG slot afaic.

QVC do rightly deserve their slot on LCN 16 greatly, as you've mentioned. It's the single biggest factor against any need for a Shopping genre. To let the latter go ahead would not bode well in the eyes of QVC.

I'll never be fully happy with any changes until the shopping channels are given their own section and the channels are actually put into a slightly better order with all the sister channels grouped together a la Freesat at least. The day that happens I'll be able to stop having to reorder the channels on my TV and can just retune and leave it as is (mostly!)

Do you reorder the channel numbers? I find that confusing and tend to just delete the shopping/adult/text/online channels, as well as those channels that are only on air for 5 minutes at 4 o'clock in the morning every blue moon. (Or something similar to that).

A friend of mine has BBC 1,2,3,4 on LCN 1-4 (I keep meaning to ask what's he's put on LCN 3 now !)
ITV 1-4 on LCN 5-8, C4, E4, M4 etc from LCN 9 onwards.

While QVC and Ideal World should be commended for their early commitments to the platform, Freeview is big enough to move those two channels away from the higher slots into a dedicated shopping section in the EPG.

If customers are buying from shopping channels lower down the EPG, I can't see why those two heritage channels can't move down with them talking the two highest LCN's in a shopping section.

One of the disadvantages of Freeview is flicking across home shopping channels to find an entertainment channel.

I swapped the HD channels with their SD equivalents, moved BBC News to 7 and Sky News to 8, I think I put Made in Birmingham where QVC should be, and moved the shopping channels to the 600s out of the way.

That is bold. I don't think I could ever get used to that! I need channels 1-5 on… well… channels 1-5.

Actually, I do this too, in terms of swapping the HD channels with the SD channels. Except BBC One of course because they've still not put the regional news on HD. *Glares at BBC*

2nd August 2017 - Freeview's EPG will once again, change channel numbers for the Children's, News, Adult, Text and streamed channels.

Option A has been chosen as the basis for the change, following a consultation with viewers and broadcasters (which I wholeheartedly support).
Entertainment and Shopping:
1 - 99, 140 - 199
Children's: 200 - 229
News: 230 - 249
Text: 250 - 259
Streamed Channels: 260 - 299
SD Simulcast Area: 610 - 669
Adult: 670 - 699

Great... I already can't just type the channel numbers for the kids and news channels, now there'll be general entertainment channels with the same problem. If I type 140 on my remote, it goes to channel 14. Can only access triple digit channels through the EPG. I'm glad to see the porn channels moved behind the text and streaming channels though. Kix (one of the kids channels!) and Television X are on the same page of my EPG at present.

I've put BBC 1 SD at Ch 999, so it's just a simple flick of the P+/- to switch to and from BBC 1 HD

I concur with regards to the slapper channels getting shunted after the SD simulcast area. However, Cellcast's contribution to the consultation makes for an amusing read. Claiming that the move to the 670s would make it detrimental for a business model is not convincing. The safety of protecting minors from the adult channels should be given credence over business interests.

I've noted this before on another popular forum, but it could be argued that having shopping channels mixed up with 'proper' channels devalues Freeview as a whole. You only have to scroll down the EPG as far as channel 16 to reach the first shopping channel, which gives the impression that you've now reached the junk section, so no point going down any further.
