I noticed the other day that the animated classic The Flintstones was to be shown on BBC TWO - and indeed today it was.

Is this the first time in a while that it has been shown on BBC TV? I think the last time must have been on Saturday mornings in the late 90's (ISTR it was on before Live & Kicking or something like that).

...and I wonder if they'll show this episode Laughing

Believe it or not, they were shown on ITV1 about four or five years ago, although it was during CITV.

I guess The Flintstones will be there until Schools comes back to BBC Two in September, although that slot is quite good for old cartoons, there's been Top Cat and Dangermouse there too.

They used to show Thunderbirds in that slot too didn't they?

Tell you what's not been on for years. A good Tom & Jerry cartoon on BBC1.

Randomly caught Dangermouse while channel hopping this morning and wondered what was going on. Who exactly is their target audience? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that these cartoons continue to be shown in this day and age but who is it aimed at? Are young viewers even aware of The Flintstones or Dangermouse?

Demographic wise, I'm guessing 24 year olds reminiscing about their childhood wasn't high up on their list... Laughing

Then again though it's the sort of demographic they'll probably get on a bank holiday.

More please BBC - this is what we want, not Animal Park!

Do you remember when the BBC would show cartoons to fill gaps in the afternoon at the weekend? What's happened to Tom & Jerry? I miss those shows.

Or when ITV used to show a good ol' Mickey Mouse cartoon on a Saturday afternoon...

*sighs*

Those were the days...

Tom and Jerry was often used as a filler by the BBC and routinely shown after Grandstand ISTR. If timings had gone awry a double bill might surface but I remember being over the moon on the celebrated day when timings had obviously gone very wrong when three T&J's were shown back-to-back!!!

The T&J episode Zoot Cat was used around March 1993, after an episode of Noel's Christmas Presents as a filler because that particular evening's House Party was postponed by an IRA bomb.

I think it was just a bomb threat wasn't it?
