Even more unusual, the ITV1 regional news magazine is on at 3.30pm on Thursday 17th June. This is due to extended build up to the England v Switzerland game. No doubt the programmes will take more of a lifestyle role with reporters live in pubs etc

To confirm, the main news during Euro 2004's first week is at these times

BBC1
Mon 14th - Normal
Tue 15th - Normal
Wed 16th - BBC News at 7pm, Regional News at 7.20pm
Thur 17th - Normal
Fri 18th - BBC News at 7pm, Regional News at 7.20pm

ITV1
Mon 14th - Regional News at 4pm, ITV News at 7pm
Tue 15th - Regional News at 4pm, ITV News at 7pm
Wed 16th - Normal
Thur 17th - Regional News at 3.30pm, ITV News at 7pm
Fri 18th - Normal

There are only 5pm games during the first week so this is the only week where there will be changes like this

Can we expect a special Euro 2004 ident on BBC One, like the one that they used in 2000?

There was no special ident for World Cup 2002 so it's unlikely BBC One will make one - the dancers are far too inflexible.

Patchy listings have come in for Monday 21 June now. The first day of Wimbledon sees CBBC's first day on BBC2 but it looks like the news will be staying on BBC1 all the way through the football and tennis. Looking at my Euro 2004 Guide from Monday's Guardian, Croatia v England will be on BBC1, but Switzerland v France is will only be on Eurosport. It's not unknown for BBC3 to have football occasionally so couldn't the BBC show the other game there, like the Guardian says ITV are doing with the group C and D matches on ITV1 and ITV2 the following Tuesday and Wednesday?

Sunday 20 June is a funny day too. Again, there's two matches going on at the same time, with one on BBC1 and the other on Eurosport. There's European Cup athletics on BBC2, the USA Grand Prix on ITV1 too.

If you look at what's up against the football, the networks are being kind ot each other by not scheduling their big shows against the big games or any involving England, until you get to Monday 21 June when there's 2 episodes of Corrie at the same time as England's last group game.

A note about CITV: it's been extended to 17:30 on the days ITV's not showing an early match during the first week.

And someone mentioned Neighbours so... there's no lunctime episode Tuedsay 15, no episode Wednesday 16, no lunchtime episode Thursday, no episode Friday or Monday 21. Presumably it takes a break for Wimbledon anyway IIRC from previous years?

They're not supposed to! It was agreed some time ago that all English regional programmes would be shown on BBC ONE. This is for two main reasons: the DTT transmitters in English regions are only configured to opt out on Net1 only and English DSAT regionality is limited to BBC1 too.

What do you mean they're not supposed to? They decided they would move all BBC2 English regional variations to BBC1, effectively signalling the end of BBC2 English regions, because as you say the English regions are not supported on any digital platform and the vast cost of adding support could not be justified considering the small amount of use the BBC2 English regions got.

But, it's hardly like they've entered into some sort of agreement not to use them any more? The facilitiy to provide an English regional service on BBC2 analogue is still there and I don't say it going out. Of course they should still make use of it if the case is there. To suggest that they shouldn't because 'digital viewers can't see it' (i'm not suggesting you personally said that, but it's often trotted out at the suggestion) is stupid, because everyone can still receive BBC2 through analogue terrestrial and so could still access regional programmes moved to BBC2 if they needed to (with the exception of people receiving a sub opt, but even then the only real casualty is Channel Islands viewers).

Quote:
This means that not only would viewers in the Channel Islands not get their sub-opt, they wouldn't even get the Plymouth main programme - instead they'd get BBC London News... On ANALOGUE...

Well the main Plymouth edition of Spotlight rarely if ever acknowledges the Channel Islands, and pretty much nothing going on in South West England is of any interest to Channel Islanders, so it doesn't really make a difference if they get BBC London News instead of BBC Spotlight with no opt; either way they are getting news which doesn't report their region and what is reported in the programme is of no relevence to them.

But, if Spotlight Channel Islands still comes from the same site as the transmitter, can they not hard switch the transmitter output from the Dsat feed to the studio and thus manually run the opt on BBC2? I know there would probably then be a bit of picture roll between the two because the sources wouldn't be synced but surely an opt with a messy cut is better than no opt at all? Or is there a reason why this can't happen?

Well Aussie soaps aren't scheduled in the same way as ours. Whilst ours lead the schedule and run year round, Australian soaps run in seasons (even if not explicitly acknowledged as such) with a 4-6 week break over christmas, new year and the preeceeding/following time. In order to avoid getting in a position where they run out of episodes, UK broadcasters airing in-production Aussie soaps must loose enough slots to cover the break during the course of the year. Sporting events which are throwing schedules to pot anyway are a perfect way of doing that.

Why does the BBC Euro 2004 promo show the BBC1 logo, the radio5 logo, but the old BBCi logo? I thought that BBCi was now bbc.co.uk - so why is the old logo being used? Shocked

I'd imagine BBCi is still being used for the TV Interactive stuff, as it'd be a bit silly to use a web address on the telly.

Anyone know anything about the programmes opening titles & music yet?

Remember in the World Cup 2002, BBC went with a fairly upbeat (and bizzare) number, and ITV had a classical theme.

This was a complete turn around to what is usually expected

I didn't like the ones that both channels used in 2002, they were dire! I really liked the ones they used in 1998, BBC had a proper clasiscal theme whilst ITV used Rendez-Vous '98 mixed by Jean Michel Jarre and Apollo Four Forty, I only know this as I have the full theme on CD.

Plus the one ITV used for Euro '96 was class, it had a great amount of pride to it.

BBC have a remix of the Basement Jaxx tune "good luck", which I believe includes choral tones- it's an incredibly catchy and upbeat number.

The 2002 BBC tune was not "bizarre" but the fantastic Led Zepellin tune "Kashmir"- it's actually about an 8 minute track, but well worth listening to in full

Just a slightly separate point- it appears that Five Live have changed their music (at the half hour and top of the hour) for Euro 2004.....it's actually a really chilled out acoustic kind of tune.which is a bit surprising. Also the woman now says "The Official Euro 2004 station- Five Live", rather than "Live News - Live Sport - Five Live"
